| Nero works fine for MPG but the point of using the DIVX format is compression while retaining quality. If you convert from DIVX to DVD you'll increase the file sizes and won't be getting more video on a disc. For DIVX playback, check out the Philips DV-642 DVD player (sold at circuit City for approx $70). It plays DIVX, XVID, DVD, MP3, etc. The one downside of this player is that it does not support shuffle mode of MP3's burned to a CD or DVD. For that reason I returned it but if you don't care about that - this is a good all-around palyer for the compressed formats. |

This site has all info and lots of freewares that you need.
I use VideoShink to back up and burn DVD. It's a freeware and works perfectly. It can compress a long movie into a DVD.
