I am the owner of a brand spanking new MDX and want to change over to Sirius Satellite.
1) is it possible?
2) is it an add-on, or can sirius REPLACE the XM system?
3) if it can be done, and it is done by Acura themselves, is my warranty still in effect.
I appreciate your time!

1) Yes
2) You will need to buy a Sirius receiver and install it or have it installed.
3) You can do it yourself, have the place you buy the receiver at do it (Circuit City, etc), or have Acura do it. Having it done at Acura will be the most expensive by far. Your warranty will be in effect but not on the Sirius unit because it is not Acura equipment. |

I think he is asking if the integrated XM can be switched to Sirius, so that it works the same, just with Sirius (i.e, on the normal radio display).
In that case, think the answer to (2) is actually that it is an *add-on*, that you would have to use a Blitzsafe adapter or other way of getting the Sirius signal into the head unit.
Of course, if they would just let you swap out the XM receiver for a Sirius receiver and have the Sirius stations come up on the head unit display, that would be great. But I don't think it works that way...
Personally I have had both. I had Sirius first and loved it, then I sold that car and got my MDX, and got XM because I thought all satellite radio was the same...what a mistake. XM played too much obscure stuff I had never heard before, including on their supposedly hit stations, so I switched back to Sirius in my MDX and have been happy since... |

I have to agree, I have Sirius and love it. The store I work at sells both, so I have had time to listen to them both, and I think that if I had XM, I would probably have canceled my subscription by now. I just don't care for the content. Plus, I am out in the X quite a bit on Sundays, and I need my NFL.
BTW thodgdon, do they both have repeater towers in the polar region? :5: |

Glad to hear you guys like Sirius. It helps my stock! Now I just have to wait for my XM subscription to expire. |

Their is a good spot for the Sirius receiver under the ash tray. Check out my receiver:
I agree with the above posts, XM isn't worth it. Its no different then paying for FM.
Lexus has the right idea and comes with Sirius. |

Actually, I really like Infiniti's plan of offering both and letting the customer choose. I need a car with pretty good mileage and that can scoot around in traffic, so I was looking at the 2006 Civic EX or SI, but Honda does XM and it's actually a deciding factor for me. Probably what I will do is get the car and install a Starbase like I did in my wife's MDX. A blitzsafe isn't required this time because the headunit comes with an AUX-IN.
I like your install of the Sirius H2A. I couldn't get that to fit like I wanted which is why I installed the XM Commander (and found out that I hated XM). So when the Starbase came out, I installed that in the same place.
Here is a pic of the XM Commander installed, which I replaced with the Starbase which is essentially identical. I sold the Commander on Ebay!!!

How did you install without the blitzsafe? I though the only other way was with an fm modulator. You are right, customers should get a choice between Sirius or XM. thx |

I used the blitzsafe when I installed the XM and Sirius in the MDX. The non-blitzsafe install I was referring to the 2006 Civic EX which has a headunit that has an AUX-IN, perfect for the output from a Starbase or other Sirius tuner.
The only drag is that it wouldn't be integrated into the Navi system like the slick XM setup, but I'm not getting satellite to stare at the display. I'm getting it for the music and Howard. I can live without the integrated satellite.
It would be nice if they just sold the car with a satellite-ready headunit and let customers buy the receiver for the service they wanted... |

Has anyone been able to install Sirius but also keep XM active as well...I want Sirius for the better music choices and the NFL but my wife likes XM...
Is this possible without it being an ugly installation??? |

Hey Thogdgon:
I love your installation. What sort of brackets did you use to mount the sirius unit? Was the cable left loose to allow for ashtray movement? was it even mounted under the ashtray at all? Or was it mounted to the floor of the unit? I own a Starbase and dislike the present location (ashtray removed and mounted in its place.)
Thanks for your help and advice.

Soon you will have so many commercials on both you'll go back to terrestrial radio. Maybe a few less if Sirius cans Mel Karmazin. But who am I to stand in the way of your Martha Stewart ? You'll be able to hem skirts in no time ! |

Thodgdon,
What model Blitzsafe product did you use with your 2004 Acura MDX? Thanks. |
