I have just returned from heart surgery, triple bypass and aortic valve replaced with pig valve. DR does not want to me ride in front of an air bag for 6 weeks. Cannot drive either. Is there any simple procedure that I could have a friend take care of or is this a dealer only thing which they will tell me cannot be done because of federal law.?

If I have to sit in back how is passenger head rest reoived.

To read you post correctly you are not supposed to drive for 6 weeks in a seat that has an airbag. For the 6 weeks I would just ride in the back. If this does not work for you bringing a letter from the Dr may let the dealer disable the airbag but doing so will endanger anyone else who sits in the seat?

So the simple and less costly answer is simply to ride in the back and relax

Dang, boy  -- you ain't OLD enough to need all those repairs (I know, 'cause you're my age)! The headrest on my '01 is removed by lifting it as high as it will go, then press the inboard pushbutton and pull it all the way out. I assume it's the same on later models.

Good luck, and take it easy for a while.

Here's to a speedy recovery! :7:

G, like the others have said, just take it easy and relax in the back seat until you're strong enough to be back in the driver seat.

Glad to hear you made it through ok, hope you have a speedy recovery, and I'd just sit in the back seat.

G is back online after surgery. Yay!!! :claphead: From to the service manual, disconnecting the driver air-bag is easy, but is not recommended because the SRS computer will not like it. Later it will require a special tool or dealer visit to get it reset/cleared. Disconnecting the battery will not erase this memory/code - it's stored in some kind of non-volatile memory for traceability. And then this SRS repair will show up on the dealer's service dept records. Suggest we just leave it alone and not mess with it. Anyways, have a good rest and have a seat at the back...

Agreed with the others here, it probably isn't simple enough to make it worth it.

Along with the others here, I hope that your recovery is quick and comfortable, and you're 100% as soon as possible.

Sounds like the dreaded 105K tuneup. :D If that were me, I would use it as an excuse to be a passenger for once. Take care!

G-

I gotta agree with most everyone elses sentiment, forget about the airbag, kick back in the back and get yourself back in shape. Best regards,

George

G-

speedy recovery.... this is a tough, tough surgery.

Just let her drive and don't bother with needing to 'back seat drive'. Skip the headrest too! Get a book, DVD player or newspaper and don't sweat it... 6 weeks will be gone before you know it.
