Hey guys, I'm on a trip on the U.S. East coast, from Toronto. Currently I'm in Lake George, New York. On the way in, I programmed the navigator to the hotel ( Days Inn) and it was amazing. The first night we were here, the wife wanted to go to OLIVE GARDEN restaurant. She asked me "Can your computer thingie in the car find one close by?" Sure enough there was one just down the road in Glen Falls.

What amazed me was the amount of detail that is stored in the DVD. AS we were driving up Interstate 87, a lot of the local attractions showed up on the screen. Stuff like Saratoga Spa and Racetrack, ALL of the local airports and airstrips.

If I get a chance ( my wireless card is kaput, I'm using the free LAN connection provided by DAYS INN) I will write more!!!!

Oh, yeah one more thing. The MDX gets GREAT gas mileage!! Averaging 24 (9.9l/100 kms) m.p.g.!!! Almost as good as my Volvo 60.

What's the difference between a job and a wife? After 10 years, the job still sucks!!:D

Good to hear the NAV doesn't suck either.:D

Been to Lake George last summer. Very nice scenery.

I am now in N.J., at the MEADOWLANDS PLAZA HOTEL. The NAV got me from the THUNDERBIRD hotel in West Yarmouth CT to this hotel with no problem.

It even pointed out where the local MCdonalds in West Yarmouth was. The kids loved it.

I final thought is the every new upscale vehicle should be equiped with a NAV.

That statement needs qualification - every upscale vehicle should have an Acura navigation system. Not every NAV system is equal, as BMW owners know.

That said, wait until your navigation directs you to the nearest Wendy's 400 miles away! Or refuses to reroute despite telling it to avoid a certain street. But you're right, I would prefer my next vehicle to have navigation rather than XM or some other frill.

I really like the Nav most of the time. But when it tells me that the nearest 7-11 is 1200 miles away, I begin to wonder. It seems that you have to ask the location question the right way and then it gets it right. I would really like to have a better way of locating stores rather than having to go through a guesswork of menus.

I have the Nav for the last year and a half and have rarely used it to find restaurants. I had used Hertz's Neverlost and was excited when I got the MDX with the NAV. First time I tried, It wanted to take me to Kansas for dinner from NJ.

I was in Lake George this summer and went to the same Olive Garden, but I looked it up on traditional map. Didn't even think of trying the NAV.

I must be missing something? What is the right way to find the nearest restaurant?

Yeah, the nav does get squirrely sometimes. I have trouble with roads that have both a name and a number, e.g., Hwy 360 = Capitol of Texas Highway (so do I search for "Highway 360" or "Hwy 360" or "SH360" or "SH 360" or "Capitol of Texas Highway" or "Capitol of Texas Hwy"?). And that's in my own town. It's just not very forgiving.

I haven't used it for restaurants, but if I search for a Wells Fargo, my success varies with the category I choose. Wells Fargo under "BANK/ATM" might get me a location in California, so I might need to look under something like "FINANCIAL SVC" to find the Austin branches.

Overall, however, it's a great system. And I'm even on the '02 version. Since I know it can be fickle, I'll usually try a couple of ways before I give up. More often than not, I end up getting it to do what I want it to do.

Find Place -> Category -> Restaurants -> All Types -> Sort By Distance to Travel. I use it all the time and it's wonderful. If you want to narrow down the types you can pick the specific type before selecting "Sort By Distance To Travel."

My amazing NAV decided to freeze up today on the way home from a long drive. It locked up solid, and no matter what button I pressed it would not change screens.

So I did a quick power down/power up at the first opportunity I had, but the NAV was still frozen. So then I turned it off for several minutes, and powered back up, and it works again.

Doesn't Windows CE run this stuff? Boo to Microsoft!!!

I have made a 600 miles trip and really got to use the Nav along the way. Will never have another car without one. I am sure it will save more marriages than all the preachers in GW's White house.

My one problem and it is a minor one. The voice that speaks the streets, not the directions, is slurred. Anyone else have the same problem and or a solutions. I have not gone back to the dealer yet as I only have 4500 miles on my 2005 MDX.

I have the same problem, but I think it's just the voice they are using, and the way the voice pronounces the streets. Even if you can not understand what the voice says, it shows up in the display.

By the way, I have returned from a 3000 kilometer trip along the east coast, and, as I am telling everybody at home, it is the most amazing peice of software I have seen. I picked a hotel in NJ, across from Manhattan. The NAV got me right to the front door. The wife wanted to go to a discount mall ( are they really discount prices?????) and after getting the name and address from the front desk, the NAV got me there as well. Best part was the mall was at the end of one of the runways at one of the NEw York airports, so I could have sat in the car at watch the jumbos taking off.
