Update schedule for Navi DVD's? - Click HERE for Original Thread

My wife just bought a used 2002 MDX Touring with Navi, nice ride! The Navi DVD that came with it is version 2.05A. Given that the www.acuranavi.com site lists version 2.20 as the latest revision for the 2002 model, it seems it may be worth getting an updated disk.

Question is, should I go ahead now or wait for a next update? Does Acura/Alpine have a consistent update schedule for these DVD's? I called Alpine, and was told that v2.20 is the Fall '04 version, which actually became available in February of '05.

Does anyone know when the next version might appear?

Thx!

Acura used to be on a fall release schedule, but that changed a couple of years ago because of issues when they released version 2.11. There's usually three different dates to keep track of: database press date, Acura issue date, and release to public date. In the example of v2.20, the database was pressed (completed) on 07/09/04, Acura labelled it a Fall 04 release, but because of production issues it wasn't available until 02/05. So yes, that database is now over a year old. I would expect them to try and get back on a fall schedule again, but who knows.

FWIW, the v2.20 database is a HUGE improvement over the v2.05 one. v2.05 was the last database that had only certain metropolitan areas fully mapped. Starting with v2.11 and newer, over 95% of the entire country is now fully mapped. Some of it is labelled as "unverified" data, but that just means NavTec (the company that provides the database to Alpine) didn't physically verify that portion of the info themselves. Instead they relied on 2rd party vendors to provide the data. For all intents and purposes, it's accurate but they cannot guarantee it, so the lawyer types make them differentiate between the two.

OK, thanks for the replies, much appreciated.

Based on this info, it seems like it could be another 6 months before a next update is available. Given the significant improvement of the 2.20 release over 2.05 as you say, I'll just go ahead with the 2.20 DVD. Thanks!

I just called Acura today to buy the DVD and was told to hold-off.
I got a 2.11 version and she told me the newer version, next to 2.20 is coming out on Oct 2005.

I don't really know how accurate this info is but just to let you all know.
