Unqualified service advisor at the dealer - Click HERE for Original Thread

Last week, I brought my X to the dealer South of Sacramento ( not naming name due to respect for Daniel –Admin) for oil change and brake clunk. The X is my weekend vehicle and only has 13K miles on after 31/2 years.

The so call “Service Advisor” insisted that I should have the 15K service done. He stated that it’s important that I have the VT-4 fluid change. I told him that it was done at 7.5K mile. He went on saying that was done too early, and it should be done again at 15K. He asked me where I got it done. I told him it was done at Niello. I told him that Niello would not change it if it was not called for. I reiterated that I followed the 02 manual. He kept saying that was not what he was taught in school…. (maybe he should go back to school some more.)

After several hours since I left the dealership and had not heard from him, I called. He told me that they check the brake clunk problem, but he had to check with his boss if it is covered under warranty. I told him that my X is still under warranty, but he said brake is only warranted for 12/12. I told him there is a TBS for this infamous brake clunk. He could not listen. I just flew my top off!

I called Acura Client Service (ACS) and ask if the brake is only covered fro 12/12 and where in the warranty book stated the fact. The guy (Robert) told me it is under warranty. I also told the ACS person about the wrong info was given to customer on VT-4. He said that maybe I should follow the severe maintenance schedule if I drive in stop and go condition. I told him that Acura should classify the whole California as severe condition.
The dealer would love to change your VT-4 every 5K mile! Cachin! Cahin!

Here my suggestion for the dealer and Acura Client Service, teach your people to listen! The Acura owners are informed and educated, and we should be treated accordingly. It was the last time I would take my vehicles to this dealership!

I would blast it all over the internet who it is ! The manager hired this dork ! They should be part of the blame as to why this fellow was miss informed !

The power of the INTERNET !

I have always found it is best to bring in the TSB to show the dealer
04-009 JUN 04 Brakes - Rear Brake Clunking Noise

Be happy the guy was just over eager and looking to upsell you. I had a Ford pickup and the dealer shorted me a quart of oil at 3 different places. I wound up driving to the other side of Denver for dealer service. I figured any dealer that could not put 14 quarts of oil in a truck could not be trusted for other things as each service advisor argued with me until I pulled out the owners manual or offerd them a $100.00 BET that usually shuts people up

Fabvsix,

It's one of the sponsors here! That's the reason I did not name it on this website.

BTW, I called the Service Manager but have never heard from him.

Yup! he sure tried to sell me a $400 service from a $30 oil change.

He is either miss informed like Fabvsix said , or he thinks that the owners are stupid. If I wanted a third grade treatment, I would buy a ....

BTW, after three years in first grade, I should be considered a third grader, shouldn't I? :2:

All the more reason we need the name. You'd rather the sponsor was scamming users of this forum???

Nope, not that one. He does mention in his initial message that he told the SA that the VTM-4 fluid was changed at Niello. So it has to be another one.
paulp
Well, the Mod can delete the name if deems inappropriate.

It's Elk Grove Acura.

Yup, my bad, I just deleted my post so no one is harmed.

I think those Elk Grove Acura ads that appear all over this site recently were placed thru Google (placement probably not bought thru our admin here but I shouldn't speak for him).

Got my MDX from Niello. The Niello guys are cool. Bought 2 vehicles from the Niello group last year. My next vehicle will most likely be from Niello too (doesn't matter which vehicle or Niello showroom as long as it's from Niello).

Hi neighbor,

I bought both of mine from Niello too. I went to EG since it is closer to where I live.

Lesson learned!

Just as you neighbors avoid Elk and drive further to Nielo, I do the same as I AVOID ACURA OF CONCORD and drive to Acura of Pleasanton.....:(

I know what you meant! When I was looking for the X, I went to Concord since they told me that they had two in stock.

I went there, and they didn't have zip! On top, they tried to sell me the X with forced options. Bunch of jerks!

PaulP:

There service is as bad as Sales ! My partner went there behind my back. I arrived to listen to what they had to say.....well they tried to sell us an X in a color combo I REFUSED to have. I'm a FAB (BLACK ACURA FREAK) and ONLY Ebony interior ! I took their proposal and got the hell out of there and told my partner NEVER to go there again !

Well, in my opinion, that service advisor is very very qualified!

Remember, the main job for the so called "advisor" is not have your vehicle serviced right but to squeeze out as much money as possible from your pocket. The only advise they will ever give you is to pay more money. Have you ever met an advisor that told you that you do not need to do a maintenance item? They always "ADVISE" you by throwing out BS to see if you buy it.

Educate yourself, that's the best protection you can have when you decide go in a stealership. Oh, I mean, dealership.

I happen to have very respectable/honest service folks at my dealership. Tim is also a honest business man ! YOU need to re-educate yourself buddy !

Try the SA arguing with me when I had the Manual and was showing him.

I needed the 15K service done on my 04 X, that includes a VTM change. He insteaded because it wasn't on the list it didn't need to be changed.

When I brought the book to him, he argued with me and said I had the wrong book. Stupid new guy!!!!!

From now on I'm going A la Carte for service.

This was also the guy who told me that if I didn't change my oil every 3750 miles that I would void the warranty!?!?!? Don't understand that, considering I just showed you that the book says 7500 miles... oh, wait, that's right, I have a FAKE SERVICE MANUAL.

Next time he argues with me or anyone else, I'm dragging his ass through the parking lot and into the owner's office.

ARGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!

vtpcgeek,

I really disappointed at Acura for allowing this kind of service to go on at their dealerships (or should I say stealership.)

If Acura really thinks it's an upscale entry level luxury company, they should have trained their employees to treat customers with just a little respect.

Obviously, yours and my complaints are not isolated. I'm sure there are others.

I didn't mention this, but a year ago or two, my current dealership hired an idiot (Service Advisor).....well long story short, he tried to SCREW the wrong customer. He was fired the next day on the job. After thay they roll the red carpet when they hear my name........I also got the jerk fired in Louisiana who tried to stiff my elderly parents too ! He tried to charge them $5000.00 for a rebuilt OEM transmission only after 28,000 miles on their Accord. I told my father to chill, called Corporate and well after that that jerk was fired and my parents got a tranny F R E E from the dealership....

I still find it amusing when folks post about Service Advisors giving them wrong info....

Worst case they are BSing you to steal- otherwise just incompetent.

They did this to me at Lasher- I went nuts with acura corporate.

I was told, 'off the record' by an Acura district manager that maybe I should try Niello.

I was plesantly surpirsed with my serivce at niello over the years- only warranty- but just solid, honest guys. You DO need to make it clear that YOU are telling THEM what to do. Once they know you are not a cash machine they are very stright forward.

SUrprisingly, they are the same at the BMW dealership.

Somebody was wondering why Acrua corpoarte allows this to go on- simple answer? THEY HAVE NO CHOICE. Dealers are independent, and can do anything they want- acura's leverage is pretty slim.

And yes, lasher has decided that the Sacto valley is all 'extreme duty'- plus that pad the list of Acura maintenance items with their own 'recommendations'-
JeffK
I have posted in previous threads the fact that service advisors are on commission.

Many on this board find that hard to believe, but that is the fact!

When you bring your car in for service, the SA participates in the cost of the work done, i.e. he/she is on commission.

If you ask that x,y and z be done, and later in the day you get a call saying that a,b and c should be done, and you agree, the SA gets a commission for this extra work.

Acura COULD help it's image by telling people "on the record" to go to Niello. Then the other dealer will lose business until they clean up their act. And Acura will look good because people will be happy with the service they receive. I believe Chrysler has or had a system of Stars to tell the better dealerships apart (of course that has it's problems too).

FYI: On a work order I always write in the following where they have the section on "revised estimates and 'authorization'":

"No telephone authorization- fax only"

Had an issue many, many years ago with a furd- 'we called, no you didnt, yes we did, no you...'

ardvarkus,

Elk Grove Acura is formerly Lasher!

Ironically, I just got a letter from them asking me to call the service manager if there is anything that I'm not happy with the service. I did call, and he had never responded!

I have and he is goes out of his way to help. So much that I drive 1 hour out of my way to take my 1995 Honda Civic. He even gave me a loaner once when the parts for a service wasn't delivered. This is for a 10 year old car. Sure I go to nearby places for brakes and oil changes but for services when Im sure taking it to Honda would be better I go to him.
