Tint on Front Windows - Click HERE for Original Thread

I have my 2005 MDX Black/Black now for almost 3 months and now would like to have the front windows tinted to achieve a coordinated/cleaner look. I've read from some threads in here that 20% is the closest to the OEM tint on back and rear windows.

My concern is the warning posted in the manual that tinting the front windows may affect the performance of the navigation.

Does anyone have experienced any problems when the front windows have been tinted?

Thanks for any input

:) :roadtrip:

Didn't see that anywhere? The receiver is juts on top of the radio in the center of the dash from what I have been told? It seems to work fine for me no problems and get 8 satellites consistantly?

Go for it

Dunno about the 05 but on my 01 X with 20% front tint, the NAV does fine. Just check your local laws if it's street legal. Or roll down the windows if you see a trooper passing by.:D

You planning to tint your windshield? I hope not. That should be the only way to cause the problem you describe. I thought the receiver was part of the antenna on the back of the car, but what do I know. Post pics after you do it. I've thought of doing it just to cut down on heat in the car in summer. Plus it would be good if the cops couldn't see me when I'm rolling a joint while driving on the freeway. :1:

I had the windshield on my X tinted, one piece. We had it on the X for about 6months. Decided to take it off b/c it was too dark at night. During the day is was awesome.

The manual says to avoid tint that has metal in it as that could interfere with the GPS. I have a 05 with Navi and I had it tinted with this new 3M film that from the outside looks close enough. From the inside the view is does not have the colorized tan hue that the factory tint does. It costs about $100 around here.

Yeah, that was what the manual says....I just wanted to be sure I won't be having gps problem when the front windows are tinted (not the windshield). I like the navi feature that much to mess up the gps. I would get it done soon.
Thanks for everyone's input.

BTW, as I was leaving work to head home I just noticed that the windshield now have a crack about 10" long that starts from the bottom of the passenger side. :( Anyone knows a good shop who does windshield replacement around SoCal? I don't want to go the dealer...It would cost a fortune......

I tinted my X front windshield (60) and 2 front sides (30) with Huper Optik ceramic tint, total cost $350, made for Nav and Sat. Should have went with (40) on front sides because (30) is a little too dark although it has a higher level of heat protection. Man, I have to tell you, the heat stays out; UV stays out, 40% reduction on front windshield heat with about 70% on sides. I feel very confident that my interior is well protected from any sun damage and my AC doesn’t have to work so hard either. The minus side is you don’t have as much clarity in the windshield with the film on it, but you get used to it. It’s clear enough for safety sake, even at night. I’m happy in the fact that I don’t have to worry about any UV damage from the sun which about 99.9% protected. I still use a sun shield at times when my X is parked in the sun all day. But if I'm having lunch for 2 to 3 hours I can enter the drivers area without extreme heat to the seats and steering wheel and once the AC is on it cools down in no time. Hope this information helps anybody who’s thinking about a front windshield tint. :2:

Huper Optik tint is the only way to go, Nav & Sat frendly + the protection from Heat and Sun UV.

I went ahead and had the front windows tinted with 35% metallic and I have noticed that the Navigation display symbol (the Acura logo) tracks left of the road by ~30 feet. It's still close enough for navigation but there definitely is an effect...
