| I can't get any of the passenger side bolts to screw into the frame holes--is there a trick to doing it? |

Even without the hitch they won't screw in ? |

| nope. There is some rust in the holes, so I tried some WD40 but that didn't seem to help. The parts bag with the hitch had the correct instructions, so I'm assuming the bolts should be the right size, but maybe not? |

Have you try cleaning the rust off? RustAid safely remove rust. It's at Wally World by the paint section. |

I brushed off what I could. (The holes aren't filled with rust--just a bit at the outer edges)
(thanks for the replies so far) |

| Go to a part store or some where you can buy auto bolts and nuts. Are you going to install the transmission cooler and power steering cooler on your X? |

| No-it's just for a bike rack |

Did you remove the tow hook ? I assume you would need to remove it for the hidden hitch installation. You could compare that bolt to the ones they sent...and see if it fits the other holes. |

| The bolts on the driver side are tapped as the tow hook was installed there. The passenger side is not tapped and therefore has no threads. The bolts that came with your hitch should be self tapping. I installed them with a regular ratchet. Didn't take much effort to get them in and they hold beautifully. Just as tight as the drivers side. 22000 miles later and still rock solid. I did use the bolts that held the tow hook in place on the drivers side. |

I had a similar problem which I posted.
The solution is to soak the threads with a product that removes rust.
Then afterwards, use grease and clean up the threads as much as possible.

Just went through this on my '03. Go to a hardware store and buy a metric tap, 12mm x 1.25mm pitch. Chase the holes out using the tap with oil. Then the bolts will go in just fine. I got a lot of crud out of mine (except for the three that held the tow hook, which were clean). When buying the tap, beware that they come in 1.00, 1.25, 1.50 and 1.75 mm pitch (amazingly).
