Hi,
I'm looking for some advice... I'm installing a hardwired power adapter for my XM MyFi receiver (http://www.podelectronics.com/product3.htm).
I need to tap into a 12V supply, so I was planning on using the wires at the back of the cigarette lighter.
Any suggestions for accessing these wires (e.g. how the dash/console comes apart), or if there is a better place to tap into the 12V? (I want to make sure the 12V source turns off with the car, as the cigarette lighter does).
Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The first few pictures/descriptions from Xstatic's guide to install a Blitzsafe has instructions on how to get to the back of the cigarette lighter or DC power port.

It's a "thick" cable to provide high current to the DC/lighter port - just gotta think twice on how you will tap the power but it certainly can be done safely. Good luck. |

cool, thanks! from the pics it looks like the power cable can be unwrapped, so I'll give it a try.

Just a followup -- those instructions did indeed work and unwrapping the wire to the cig lighter was no problem.
One word of caution -- i unfortunately discovered that some of the screws are designed perfectly to fit down the holes in the base (under the rubber mat)... i recommend leaving the rubber mat in place, or putting some tape over the holes. :trustme: |
