For my past 3 cars (granted the oldest was an 01), I decided not to do put anything on it. Left it at the factory finish (nude, nothing, NA DA), and I have no issues or problems in the Colorado sun and Florida sun. The last "protection" I applied was on my 98 Mustang and by the time I traded it for my 01 Explorer, it had a small crack.

My vote is: Do nothing. Just use a damp cloth to wipe down the dust. Also, to me, the protection collects dust easier.

A custom auto upholsterer told me, occassional wiping with just clear silicone spray on a cloth is sufficient for most vinyl coverings. There is no magic sun shield for vinyl other than keeping it covered or in the shade.

Thanks for both your replies. I'll just continue cleaning it with a damp cloth. I try to keep it out of the sun as much as possible.

I've been watching all the "old timers" come out with "just use a damp cloth" etc.....Silcon spray (Yikes !) and so forth.....

Ruth I've been using this on all my Honda's and Acura's for the past 6 years ! It easy to apply and only gets better with repeat applications ! I highly recommend it !

Product:
Liqui Tech "LVR"

Leather-Vinyl-Rubber Protectant with Lanolin !

Restores luster to Vinyl, Leather, and Rubber. Provides long lasting protection. REDUCES ULTR-VIOLET damage and cracking !

Liqui-Tech Corporation

I buy the gallon jub and it last me at least 2 years !

I've now given out one of my many secrets ! Hope this helps !

can you buy it in a store, or do they have a web address?
Fabvsix
I've never seen it in stores. Pick up the phone, call the 1-800 number and it will announce their web site.......:1:

Well, maybe I've been lucky, never had any vinyl problem in some 15 years including vehicles parked outside. Those got a towel or dash cover, or windshield cover.
I'm not convinced the 'treatments' really do much more than cost more and maybe smell good.
And that was 'silicone' spray on a cloth..not silicon..which would very likely scratch the crap out of it.
I use the same for weatherstripping at all door and hatch openings.

OLD TIMER!!! P-LEAAASSSEEEE (I am a 30 something group) Why spend extra money and time doing something that only make you reapply and reapply?Have you ever thought that maybe you are making the dash worst because you are putting a chemical that will most likely would accelerate the aging process of the dash. It could one of those GREAT marketing gimicks that you think you are protecting it but actually making it weaker. VIOXX anyone...anyone?

A gallon for 2 years...WOW! I had the same 12 oz bottle of Armor All or some brand for over 4 years and the first 2 years was used monthly. I had to throw away the bottle because it was brittle. After my dash cracked, I decided not to use anything other than a damp towel to clean the dash and now 5 cars later (Wrangler, Wrangler, Explorer, Accord, and MDX) no cracks and have the factory finish without all that glossy, sticky, slimy build up on the dash that is like a magnet for dust.

I was going to mention that too, but plan to hit up Fabvsix for some outdoor plants on my next trip to the bay area and did not want to beat up on him too bad! :D

STOP! STOP my GOOD MAN! You are going to ruin the dash. Amour All...BOMBA DULL! It's like crack or heroin :1: for the dash. Once you use it, it wants more and more and more, then it falls apart.

Do you like how it collects dust, lint, and boggers :D very easily? LOL

Amour Dull is like a magnetic...get that stuff off your dash.

Used it for...lets see...10 years on my other car and never had a problem. Never really liked it either :)

The was highly recommended on the 3rd gen TL forum. I have used it and can attest that it keeps the dash clean and dust free. Good luck.:)

I second that recommendation, it has even kept the vinyl tonneau cover on my Silverado looking like new and it is exposed to elements all the time.

After 2+ years, and mostly use under hot sun and with lots of insect spatterings and road debris, I've kept the Colgan bra on the X lookin' like new with Vinylex.
The bra came with a 303 sample, but personally I liked how the V. went on better. A small amount seemed to spread out further, so I used less.
Not saying the long term benefits are as good.
