I am rather dissappointed in Acura. I decided against a Lexus Rx-330 ILO 2005 Nighthawk MDX, touring w/Nav. I like many of the standard features in this package (Bluetooth, XM, part wood dash, 6-disc changer, etc...) but I REALLY want to retrofit a power rear liftgate into my MDX, so after much searching online I found that Delphi makes power rear liftgate systems for OEM Manufacturers but will NOT sell to the public. Delphi's rep(Nancy) had suggested this company;

So I sent an e-mail to them for more info. If anyone knows of an aftermarket "GURU" that knows this type of system, I would appreciate some contact information. Thanks.:confused: |

High end stereo shops, or a custom body shop can do this modification. Call or drop by local shops.
No one I know of has done it though. It has been discussed. In fact I myself have talked about it, and might tackle the job myself when the warranty expires. |

| Any updates on this product or any others that performs the same function? I used to be one of those that didn't think this feature was all that useful until I was carrying 6 bags of groceries in pouring rain and had to set everything down to open the gate. |

Why wait, does it really matter? Being manual now, there is little that can go wrong with it other than the dampers going weak.
Probably a bigger risk of being sued if it pops up and hits somebody who standing with their back to it. |

Anyone think something like this will work? There's a bunch of different ones on ebay that all does the same thing. I know it'll only do half the job but it's the half I want it to do. Not to mention, it's cheap... |

That is just an electric trunk or hatch release mechanism. It won't actually lift or close the trunk.
But it must be noted than that is the 1st step in the "power liftgate" operation. The current latch release on the MDX is a mechanical setup (that's why you grab the handle, as opposed to push a button to open the hatch).
So this kit, in conjunction with some type of long travel twin solenoids could open and close the hatch with a remote. |
