When do you need to wax a new car?
What wax do people recommend? |

| The answer is...whenever you feel like it! There are several wax-based and polymer-based polishes out there. Wax-based: NuFinish, Meguiar's. Polymer-based: Zymol. and of course Zaino, to name a few. |

| It may not be as much of an issue with the newer finishes, but the old general rule of thumb was to wait 3 months to allow complete curing of the paint. After that wax away. Zaino seems to the one of the better prodcuts of choice. |

| Wait 3 months if you have anything painted outside of the factory. The reasoning is to allow the paint to breathe and cure completely. if you've ever seen vehicles from the factorym they come covered with plastic, which is applied not long after the body is painted. This would most certainly prevent "breathing" more than any wax ever could. But, the difference between a factory paint job and something done at most body shops, is that the factory will oven cure the paint job. This speeds up the curing process dramatically. |

Never too early to start protecting your finish. The paint and "Curing" times are a thing of the past for the most part. Paint doesn't need 3 months to "Dry" or "Breath" like the acrylic enamles of the 70's. Todays polymer based formulas are backed slow and ready a few weeks from the factory. Believe me, by the time you get the car it has been at least a few months since it was shot.
How much money do you have to burn? If you love your car buy a little bottle of German made Klasse Glaze Sealer. http://www.properautocare.com/klasse.html
It's used by a lot of museum curators for protecting the investments.
You can also pick up Mequires Show Car Glaze or Mothers Glaze. You want to put a glaze on it after a good wash. Don't treat glaze like wax. Rub it on with one hand and immediatly wipe it off with the other. If you let it dry, it's brutal to remove. It doesn't need to set in. Get several clean small cotton terry towels ready in advance for this.
After the glaze is rubbed off, (and your arms are still working this is a great uperbody workout), put on a coat of good Carnuba wax.
High tech Yellow Wax by Meguires is great for this.
Stand back and take in the super high gloss deep shine that looks even better than a new car.
