I got my brakes done this weekend at MIDAS in Eldersburg, MD. They did a good job and the price was reasonable.
They replaced the front brakes with ceramic ones and resurfaced the rotors. Total cost $233.48.
Note: Tischer Acura wanted $220 just to resurface the front rotors!

Glad to hear you got a good price at Midas. I'm not saying the dealership is the best place to get things done but in all the years I've tried Midas I got one of three things - high price, bad product, and both :)
Bad product was a constant. Sometimes they didn't charge as high and that was as good as it got. Trust me that their "ceramic brakes" are going to leave much to be desired.
The workaround I've found is that I found a trusted mechanic (through references) that runs just that - a mechanic shop, and either get him the parts to install and he charges me labor or tell him what part I specifically need. For example, he got the Honda OEM brake pads for my Civic and his quote (I always cross-check ;)) was lower than Midas and the dealership. |

Midas was my favorite years ago. They were honest and have good service. But not anymore. I had couple bad experience with them, trying to rip me off by pretending something is wrong, made me teach the mechanic what he did wrong and proved the parts are still good. But, I would not say all the Midas are bad. Maybe there are still some honest ones out there.
I bought mine from Tischer Acura. I would say it's a good dealership though I didn't went back to have mine serviced yet. Just keep in mind that service is a big income for dealers, so they will try hard to squeeze your money out of your pocket. So, clearly state what you need them to do when you get in.
By the way, have they ever done the brake TSB (replace the brake bracket to eliminate clanking noise and replace the rotor and pads for wobble) on your MDX? Under warranty? |

Yes, I had the TSB done for the brake clunk. It only lasted for about 1000 miles before it came back again(had it done at 30,000 miles). They installed some kind of shims. Since then, I just lived with the brake clunk (now at 67,000 miles). I am not sure if there is another TSB for the brakes but my car is out of warranty so I don't worry about the little things.

I know more than one person who was pleased with service at Midas. SuperTech was not too crazy about their parts either. So that may be a caution.
And I think service is variable dependent on your own local franchise.
I would go to Honda before Acura, if possible, because of the generally lower prices.
Assuming the Pilot parts are the same.
I know at my local Honda, I could bring in Acura parts and they will install them and only charge labor. I've been dealing with them exclusively for some regular maintenance.
Of course, there is also DIY, or find a good independent shop to do the work. |
