We're looking for a used MDX but money is kinda tight... (we have a boat that takes up all our extra cash)
I talked to the fleet mgr. where we bought a new Dodge diesel and he wrote down what we were looking for and said they would look for one at the auctions for us. If we got one with less than 50k miles, we could then add an extended warranty.
We have a friend that we boat with that is the sales mgr. at another dealership and he says "auctions are where we send all the cars we don't want to put on the lot" buy a "certified" MDX instead at Acura of Portland.
Then we see private sellers that are a few thousand less than everybody else.
Any suggestions or experience on this?
Thank you

Your friend is right about the auction vehicles. A private sale vehicle could save you some $$ as long as you do thorough research on it (carfax, dealer service records, etc). You can always purchase the extended warranty aftermarket cheaply. |

Hello,
I actually bought my MDX through and auction in Chicago and have been quite happy with it. I found it to be really hard to find one with Nav tho at the auction so I ended up with a Touring no NAV. However, the car has been great and I bought an extended warranty just to make myself feel better about the whole thing.
I hope this helps!:) |

So if we buy one at an auction or a private party, we can still go to a dealership and buy an extended warranty?
Thank you for your replies,
Mel
PS We are planning to have it serviced at the Dodge dealership as we have been so happy with the service on our other 3 vehicles. |

I believe you can buy an Acura Care warranty only under a certain mileage (less than 42K?); other companies offer less comprehensive warranties under 80K.
Not sure how well-versed your Dodge dealership is with a Honda engine, and it might create some confusion if the vehicle you buy is still under original warranty. |

Here's a link to a site that provides Acura warranties at a good price. These are the new warranties that cover from 2004 onward with less than 6000 miles. Looks like you need to call now for earlier models, higher mileage, etc.:

I would not want a Dodge dealership doing service on my Acura. There are many things that they will not be familiar with. They will not be up to date on any Acura service bulletins. |

Thanks for the ideas and the link.
I hear what you are saying about having a Dodge dealer servicing an Acura, does seem kind of out of their area of expertise.
I see MDX's rolling thru the service area while I'm in for service on our other vehicles.
As nice as the Durango is, they had to admit the Acura is an upscale vehicle when they have a chance to drive them.
Well, the search continues...
