Just an FYI for any of you who need to change your shocks/struts.

I'm just about at 89k and just replaced my OEM's front and rear. Went with the KYB GR-2 struts (front) and the Monroe Reflex (rear).

It's like driving a brand-new car.

My OEM's had me rolling, pitching and diving (guess that happens when you put 89k on them). The MDX now feels like it's on rails.

Anyway, the compete job ran about $740 out the door at my local Merlin shop.

What was behind the decision not to go with all Monroe, or all KYB?
Just curious...
Also, how generous is the warranty on the shocks?
Did the price include 4 wh/ alignment?

I read up on Monroe products available for the X...SensaTrac and Reflex. The Reflex was more appealing as it is marketed for the type of ride/driving I do.

My mechanic could not find the Reflex struts (front) from any distributors in the Midwest so he called Monroe. Apparently, they have not released the Reflex strut for the MDX yet...it will be available mid-November. The Reflex shocks, however, are avail for the MDX.

The KYB GR-2 runs on similar technology. KYB is also renowned for a quality product. The strut is available now for the MDX.

I was sick of feeling like I was driving a '77 Cadillac...and did not want to wait till Mid-Nov.

KYB is significantly more expensive than Monroe...hence, KYB struts (front), Monroe shocks (rear)

Warranty is the same for both: Lifetime warranty on the actual product (normal wear included). 1 year warranty on labor (from Merlin).

The $740 was for everything, including 4-whl alignment.

Thanks for the update!

Any idea how much the savings would be if I wait until November? I need to do this, but since I have a broken hip, I'm not driving much for the next 5-6 weeks. I can wait as long as I get it done before ski season. Thanks for your input.

my mechanic said he gave me a deal on the KYB since he could not find the monroe reflex's i originally wanted.

i believe i paid an extra $40 each for the KYB struts
