First off, hello, I am new to this board.

I am in the market for an MDX Touring w/ Nav and based on my research, I am thinking market ought to be about $37,330 (Invoice + dest - 1,500 incentive) as there seem to be quite a few still on the lots (I am in Houston).

A local dealer, who is also a friend of my boss, gave me a 'best price' of $39,200 which I rejected out of hand, offering the $37,300 along with my logic. He said no way, and that was that.

I have not shopped other dealers yet, but that is the next step. I actually prefer to do business with this guy since he's the closest shop to me, but $1,500 is $1,500.

So, my question is this, am I being unrelistic in expecting to get it for less than $38k?

First off, welcome aboard !

Second, I completely agree that you should get AT LEAST $1500 off invoice, if not more. The '06s will be arriving any day now, so dealers don't want to have too many '05s sitting on the lot, throw in the high price of gas, Domestic SUVs heavily discounted, the '06 Pilot - you should be the one dictating the negotiations. Search some of the prior threads, you are better off emailing all the Acura dealers within a 50 mile radius to see who is willing to quote you the best price on the model & color you want. Then shop that quote to your local dealer, if they don't match the price, buy from the other guy. This is what I did and I got a lower price than the original 1500 off invoice I was hoping for. You are in a good position, and timing is everything so there's no reason you can't get the MDX you want at the price you want. Good Luck !

I took possession in mid August. My deal was a lil more complicated since I traded a '02 Touring w/52k miles and I had a finance balance with AHFC. I got a '05 Navi w/RES for 2,300 under invoice, but the trade in was only fair (not great as my X was pristine). If you're in SoCal, I'll share my dealer experience, otherwise it won't mean anything to you in another state/geo region . . .

FWIW, I think I could've done a lil better, but my model & color were hard to find, and there was only 1 dealer that had it on the lot at the time.

Howdy boys and galls,

I am proud to say that i finally was able to get out of my horrible Expedition (worst mistake of my life) and got into my brand new 2005 Acura MDX Touring. I bought it today at the Acura Dealer in Dallas, Goodson Acura. They were absolutely wonderful and did not try to force any finance crap onto me, like two of the other Acura dealers did. Anyways, the internet salesman was very corteous and great to deal with. He gave me a price upfront that was the same as the other dealership and did not try to talk me into something else. His name is Greg Blake and if you are interested in a great deal on a 2005 MDX please go see him because I promise that he will take care of you. Anyways, please feel free to contact me at lindaschultzer@yahoo.com if you have any questions and if you mention my name I will receive another $100!

I ended up getting the Touring with Nav and RES in Steel Blue. I paid 39.5K including everything but TT&L, not a spectacular price compared to what I have seen posted here, but less about $1,200 less than Edmunds TMV.

The MDX is for my wife, it was a surprise B-Day present. She loves it! But I think I appreciate the gadgetry more than she does. Oh well, now I am free to pursue replacing my motorcycle!
