I'm sure we have lots of members along the south Texas and Louisiana coast that are bracing for impact. My daughter is at Texas A&M in College Station and she is ready. Classes have been cancelled for Friday.

msu79gt82 what's up with you? Is everything OK?

Good luck to everyone and stay safe!

I am in Sugar Land, a suburb of Houston. It is looking like we will be spared the worst of its fury which seems to be reserved for an upper cut to Louisiana.

My parents (76 & 78) live in New Iberia Louisiana. They went to my cousins house in Lafayette. I an worried sick as I'm in California hopeless ! :13: :( All we can do is pray for all those folks in South Western Louisiana and Southern Texas !

After very carefully watching the news and the NOAA website we have decided to ride it out here in Katy; a suburb of West Houston.

The good news is that Rita is weakening - now a Cat 3.

Some relief, but the EAST side of the storm is the worse ! Msu: how hot is it there now ?

The effects of Katrina on attitudes is very apparant. Folks are NOT taking this lightly. There are so many evacuating (in fact many who really didn't need to) that evacuation routes were clogged yesterday. Authorities are ready and things should go as well as can be expected.

An example of preparedness and lessons learned is that the City of Galveston placed the majority of their emergency vehicles (fire, utilities, etc) inside of the convention center - after the storm passes all the emergency vehiles will be clean dry and ready to begin cleanup.

Its a "little" cooler today at 93, but yesterday while traffic was congested bumper-to-bumper we set a record of 100 degrees

One of the neatest things I saw on the local news was a story about two guys in a gas line. The station was closed. but they did have gas and credit cards at the pump was accepted - no credit card, no gas. One of the guys had plenty of cash, but no card; the other guy had a card. They actually filmed the guy with the card paying for the other guys gas, who gave him the cash.

BTW: the two guys were of two different ethnic groups (more details unneccessary). Cool story - I wonder if it will go national? It seems the national news doesn't care to focus on the positives.

msu - thanks for the nice story & No I haven't seen it on any National station.

Hope you stay safe down there in Katy. Looks like DFW will luck out since the storm path is projected to track east of us thru Tyler.

Everythings fine here in Katy (west Houston). The news is showing some damage in Galveston; but Beaumont is taking the brunt of Rita.
texrb
msu - glad you are ok. News reports don't show any major damage in Houston. Thanks for the update. We are now not expected to even get any rain in DFW - good that there will be no damage, but we desparately need some rain up here.
