Aaaargh!

Just ran over my key chain with the lawn mower and ruined all the keys and remotes.

Has anyone replaced a remote and key - what's the best (read cheapest) way to get replacements?

thanks in advance

Buy em on ebay and reprogram em yourself.

If you need a new key, I would just buy from the key from the dealer and have them program the chip as well. Ebay remote would be around $25 and the key should be around $35. Good luck.

oops forgot about the key. that does need a chip.

Did you mulch or bag? Just kidding. Sorry, I just had a visualization in my head reading your predicament. Hope you get it sorted out. Good luck.

I ordered one from Tim at hondacuraworld.com this year. You have to send him the valet key and VIN number and he'll do the rest. I can't recall the exact price, but I felt it was very reasonable for the remote and key. You still have to program the remote yourself which involves some crazy turns of the key, but I got it on my second try, so it is not too bad.

I think I am going to try the ebay route on a used remote. The folks at the dealership said they'll re-program it for $20.

thanks

If you are going to get the used remote from ebay, don't pay the dealer $20 to program it. You can do that yourself for free.

Le me know if you have trouble getting a used remote on ebay. I have a spare one laying around.

My wife recently lost her keys and I got the remote on ebay and did the programing myself. If I can do it, anyone can. I am sure there are lots of people on this forum who can tell you how.

1. Switch ignition ON

Proceed as follows:

Note: Point remote transmitter at central locking signal control module (located behind glove box)

a) Within 4 seconds, press LOCK button or UNLOCK button of remote transmitter.

b) Within 4 seconds, switch ignition OFF

c) Within 4 seconds, switch ignition ON

2. Repeat procedure above twice

3. Within 4 seconds, Press LOCK button or UNLOCK button of remote transmitter.

4. System should now lock and unlock vehicle to indicate programming mode activated.

5. Within 10 seconds, press LOCK button or UNLOCK button of remote transmitter allowing doors to lock and unlock once.

6. Switch ignition OFF

7. Remove key

8. Check operation of remote to see how you did :-)

Be sure and turn the ignition on for this operation and not just the accessory position.

One other thing, you may need to press both the lock and unlock buttons on the remote at the same time to activate the position 1 or position 2 for your memory. The remote will be for either position 1 or 2. It will tell you which on the back in the fine print. Whichever it is, when you unlock the doors with your new remote, it will move you seats and mirrors for that memory setting.

Hope this is not too unclear........
