My 04 MDX has premium wheels on. I am planning to add a full size spare to it. However, it is difficult and more expensive to get an used OEM premium wheel than the touring wheel. I wonder if it is OK to use a touring wheel as the spare with TPMS installed on it.
Will it cause any problem when one touring wheel is mounted with three premium wheels?
Thanks for any suggestion. |

| Are you talking about emergency use? If so, it's better than the donut sitting in your rear compartment (your X's rear, I mean). |

The size of the Premium rim and tire is identical to that of the Touring model, they only differ in styling. You should have no problems (aside from cosmetic difference) using the Touring wheel as a full-size spare on a Premium model MDX.
Not sure about the TPMS issue though. Is Premium MDX not equipped with TPMS? Even if this is the case I do not think it will matter. |

| IMHO, if you're only intent is as a temporary spare, it doesn't matter if you use the touring wheel and I wouldn't bother installing the TPMS sensor. In fact you can use the Pilot wheels as a temp FSS and save some $. If you want to use the spare as part of a 5 wheel rotation, you should get a matching base wheel with TPMS installed. Right now I have a '02 touring rim as my FSS. |

Thanks for replies from everyone. Since I am intended to add a full size spare only and not using it for regular use or 5 tires ratation, I will pickup a used touring wheel if available.
(For 2004 premium model MDX, it came with Tire Presure Monitoring System.) I will not have TPMS installed on the spare.
I had flat tire twice in only 10K miles. One time one a small rock and one time with a nail. I think a FSS is necessary for a long trip away from home.
Thanks a lot. |
