I was quite surprised and very delighted with added feature of the mirror tilt. I always leave it in the center position. Staying with the theme, I added a great pair of blind spot mirrors by Maxi View, a strong mount and bound with a swivel adjustment, call them @1-562-988-8811 for web & info. Check out the pic. :18: :trustme:

That's a nice little mirror...I like the fact it's adjustable.

I've been using this one inside the car for a long time. Except for when putting up a sunshade, it's very convenient and effective.

I recently saw another type that mounts on top of the existing mirror housing.

Whatever you use, you immediately begin to appreciate how much of a blind spot there really is with the MDX, especially on the driver's side.

A nice set of mirrors also, but beware of that sticky stuff some mirrors leave on your paint when attaching to the housing. That didn't work for me. Some of them don't hold to well either. The ones I purchased attach and bond well with a special adhesive, but just in case you have to remove them for any reason, slide dental floss between bond area and mirror, be careful mirror doesn’t hit the ground upon removal.

That's another reason I liked the autobahn. No where to fall but on the dash. But it hasn't come loose yet.

Nice attachment, but it's not needed. Here's how one eliminates the blind spots:

1. Set your driver's seat so that it's in a comfortable driving position.

2. Adjust your rearview mirror so that it gives you as full a view out the rear window as possible.

3. Lean left so that your forehead gets within a couple of inches away from the driver's side window. From that positon adjust your driver's side mirror so that it just has a very slight reflection of the side of the vehicle.

4. Lean right the same approximate distance as you leaned in the opposite direction and adjust the passenger's side mirror using the same formula.

Your blind spots have now been eliminated!

As a vehicle approaches to pass from the driver's side the vehicle will disappear from your rearview mirror and appear in your driver's sideview mirror. The same will happen on the passenger's side.

I realize that many of us were taught to set the sideview mirrors so that they showed the road from a normal driving position. This is the absolute wrong way to set up the side mirrors.

Try this method, you'll see the light the way I do!

This has come up before, with the same suggestion. Many of us have tried adjusting the mirrors as you suggest, in fact that is how they are adjusted now.
Nothing beats having the mirror. It is still more effective IMO.

This is the way I have adjusted for many years. Works very well.

I guess reading this made my realize that my right mirror is not convex. I hadn't even missed it. Whatever happened to convex right side mirrors.

You should do what you can to eliminate blind areas, which include moving your body and head around to get the best visual from all of your mirrors. Having a set of extra mirrors that are designed for the blind spots will help prevent accidents. Cass A drivers use them, Class B drivers use them, why not Class C, just because many C drivers do not usually drive extra large vehicles or don’t really understand the importance of them doesn’t mean you can ignore how they help in picking up vehicle movement. I’m for doing everything stated above and also attaching a nice pair of mirrors too. I have been a Class A driver for 12 years and would not drive any of my vehicles without them.

Those little outside-mount mirrors will cause more wind resistance and possibly more wind noise. Can't help thinking they'd be attractive to vandals too. The German interior one would seem to be the better choice of the two.

I've always adjusted my mirrors like uboltpb and G. Colton and haven't ever had a problem with a blind spot.

Of course if you're like some drivers and have all the mirrors aimed at your purdy little face to apply makeup while driving, then more mirrors (and more I.Q.) would certainly be needed.

In the end you do what works for you, it’s all personal preference anyway.

I'm sure like me, Maldoman discovered a big difference when using the mirrors...like.."Where did that car come from?"
I was interested when I discovered one of our alumni members, 'Marne' had an Autobahn. He told me you don't think you need one, but just try it!
I'm not sure about the passenger's side, but for me the optional driver's side mirror has proven essential.

Here's the original thread about Marne's X...some great pics in here...
a trip down memory lane, as well as some vineyards for some of us old timers too...

I've used those little convex mirrors like you have for years now. They are perfect. I've never seen one that adjusts. For me, I like the simple ones that are rectangular and angled just the way you have yours set. You need to mount them so that they don't hit when you swing your mirrors in. I like them on the bottom inside of the mirror. They are perfect for telling if there's a car in your blind spot. Like anything, you have to get used to using them, but once you do, they'll help tremendously, especially if you have a really full load in the car.

Check out the interesting auxiliary side mirrors (not 100% sure) on the Japanese MDX models:

The side mirror is only on the passenger side. How long would that last in the US before some idiot busts it off?

Also, there is a weird video on that site in the Showroom, called MDX Movie. It shows a right-hand drive MDX, but the whole video shows it driving on the right side of the highways.

And what's up with the theme of that video?

WOW great website, where can I get one of those. Thanks for the tap in!! A very interesting addition to the
Japanese X err. I couldn't get the mirror so I took a great screen saver and some wallpaper for the trip
back to the USA.
