Vehicle-oriented nav - Click HERE for Original Thread

I doubt there is any way to do this, but it never hurts to ask. (Unfortunately, I don't have a nav manual to check since I bought my X used.)

I have a Garmin iQue 3600, which is a GPS Palm PDA. There is an option that allows you to select if you want it direction-oriented ("North Up") where North is always up and the triangle (vehicle) moves about on the map, or vehicle-oriented ("Track Up") which keeps the triangle pointing up and the map rotates around it. It's a great feature, especially for GPS where you're checking where to go at a glance, giving a "driver's perspective" of the map. I have an '01. This may be a feature available on later models, but I'd love to know if I can do it on mine.

Thanx

P.S: Anyone in the market for a portable GPS, I highly, highly recommend the Garmin iQue 3600. It has surpassed my expectations for a Palm and a GPS device, plus the POI database is excellent. If Windows Mobile is more your flavor, there is an M5 model which includes Bluetooth.

IIRC, just press the North icon and it should toggle between the vehicle perspective and the North direction.

You should have this feature on your 01 MDX. Just touch the north arrow and it will change to vehicle oriented. Touch again to go to north oriented. It is on my 04, and when we had an 01 I recall that it was there also.

Yep, it's on all the navi versions, but only when you are on the three most zoomed in modes (1/20th, 1/8th, 1/4th mile). Once you get to 1/2 mile and further out it automatically goes to north-up orientation.
Our MDX
1/2 mile is the least zoom in mode for vehicle oriented on my 04. I will double check it tomorrow.

Yes, now that I think about it I think 1/2 mile will also show vehicle up orientation as well. But after that it's all north up.

It worked! Great! Thanks alot. I've got to get me a manual ordered. I feel I'm missing out on some things.

BTW, anyone know if there is an autozoom feature while navigating to a destination?

Sorry if I seem like a nag.

No, there isn't. But just a couple of punches on the "out" rocker, and you're at the maximum.
