Hi Folks,
I'm a new owner of an Acura MDX. Well, ok, actually it's the wife's car. I'm just maintaining it.
I've been in the past an Audi driver who use to hack up my car. There were a couple of things I were hoping to do with the MDX.
Can anyone tell me if the following is possible.
1)Reprogram the way the central locks work. Namely, the doors autolock after reaching a certain speed. Holding the remote's unlock or lock button opens/closes all windows.
Actually, I was wondering if such features exist at all in the MDX.
For Audi/VW these are features that typically need to be set by the dealer, but are accessible if you have a OBD programmer.
Just curious if Acuras have the same thing.
2)Reprogram the Nav to remove the annoying safety message screen each time you start up.
3)Are there any performance mods for the MDX (IE supercharger or turbos). The 265hp..errr...I mean the 253hp SAE HP is starting to irritate me. |

Whats wrong with just pressing the "OK" button w/ your finger when you start the navi up?
:o

1) No
2) I don't believe anyone has posted a hack for this.
3) Unhappy with a low 7 second 0-60 SUV? How fast do you need to go in a 4500 lb vehicle with little real sport car handling capabilities? There are some intake mods if you search and one fake turbo thread. But the typical MDX buyer demographic is a family hauler with little interest in extreme mods, turbo, etc. I can see modding a sports car but, why spend a lot of money modding a vehicle that will exceed it's handling capability very quickly. There is also the weak Honda/Acura tranny issue. And increased HP/Torque is only going to make your mgp worse - who needs that at gas prices these days? |

There are some workarounds if not actual reprogramming:
1) Aftermarket alarm systems will sometimes incorporate these features.
2) There was a guy named Bysin in the acurazine forum who was working on this but I don't know if he's still active. He did manage to replace the picture that comes up.
3) There have been intakes but Tim of hondacuraworld had hinted at performance upgrades if there was a market for it. But I agree with JL_SS that it would seem inconguous to beef up an SUV like the X. To each hos own. |

First off let me be the first to say :welcome:
As to your first question, these features are not standard however there are mods.
See this thread for a cheap but effective mod that you can easily DIY to make your doors lock when you release the emergency brake.
Parts are less than $20 and it takes about a half hour to install.
As far as the windows I only recall seeing people able to do this by adding an alarm module.
Good luck and happy trails....... |

safety, blah, blah blah blah... yeah, i got it. the first time we actually read it.

I prefer the fuel magnets that guarentee +20hp, or the coffee can exhaust upgrade from rice-a-roney bling bling pimped out getto houses.
:D
In general i think the mdx is a fine vehicle. the only thing I thing i wish they didn't change was..
the exhaust tips that was created to make the exhaust pipe seem larger than it actually is, particularly since the insides are blackened. I actually like the way the old single sided dual exhausts on the older mdx's look.
still getting use to the altezza style tailights. still prefer the old red taillights.... |

I know what you mean. I recently upgraded both heads and tails, with some hesitation about the latter. They're kinda growing on me now, especially since they match the headlights. I'm about to put up the old tails on ebay, with wiring and 2 bulbs that came with the old style harness. Lemme know if you decide to "downgrade". |

I think the mdx is a fine suv, and a long time ago i had an integra. but the thing is that i'm left feeling after driving a honda or acura, is "where's the low end torque"? Again it's not a big deal, but i do tend to be heavy footed, particularly when merging and etc on the freeways.....and honestly, we sure didn't buy an mdx because of it's fuel economy. guess i'm just use to more the v8's in the other suvs.
Currently getting 14mph on city, and 18mph at best on the freeway, adding a supercharger at this point won't make a dent in fuel economy imho.
oh well...
i've read a supercharger exists for the tl. just curious if one was created for the mdx. and i do have a way to beef up the tranny, and no it's not the extra tranny cooler. |
