Hi,

Recently i purchased(online) used MDX 2002 from TX and i am resident in CA.
i wanted to know where is the emission sticker located ..on the engine or somewhere else?
First i had problem getting smog test due to lack of that sticker .That person was not able to find the sticker and he said he cannot do smog test . So i went to another shop he also tried to find that sticker in vain. But somehow using computor instructions and manual he did the smog test, which obviously passed.
When i went to DMV, the person verified the vehicle, wrote down VIN etc but he also couldnt find emission sticker and wrote on the verification form that its missing.I got the number plates that day.But now, around 10 days later i got mail, that verification was not complete and i need to bring the vehicle back to DMV for inspection. I think they need emission information/sticker.
Does anyone know where is this emission sticker usually located. And if its missing from where can i get the information :(

Did anyone come across such a situation ?

Thanks
Kina

If I'm not mistaken, the actual DMV issued sticker should be on the windshield, and the ULEV or Vehicle Emission Control Information should be under the hood. If not, the original dealer should be able to provide that information. Others can chime in.

yea they need the ULEV or Vehicle Emission Control Information which is missing. DMV person and the smog tester tried to find it on the engine and on the hood inside but it was missing. This is used car so i am not able to contact the original dealer.

need to go tomorrow to DMV and see what happens :( :(

Dunno what else to do. Read this link ; it pretty much tells you to look under the hood. I wonder if the DMV has a database of existing vehicles?

Thank you for the link.
But in that link also its given "All vehicles, however, have a mandatory under-the-hood label that identifies the emission standard(s)..........
But what to do if its missing  :(

It sounds like your X was in an accident and the hood had to be replaced. Even if a new OEM hood was used, the emission stickers are not usually affixed/included. Any Acura dealer should be able to provide the stickers but they have to certify the vehicle conforms to EPA standards. I know because it happened to me a while back. Did you carfax before you made the purchase?

Sounds like this vehicle was wrecked before. A replacement hood will have a "R DOT" label on it(unless it was painted over). All other stickers don't come with it. If the front fenders or doors don't have a sticker with the VIN on it, those were replaced too.

Yes.. i had taken the carfax report before purchasing...it didnt show a single accident nor does it show any problem.

Door has VIN nnumber and other info stickers.

Anyway today i went to DMV and the only thing missing on the form which is supposed to be filled by DMV verifier was the year of the vehicle. He just entered 2002 and said thats it. I hope that was the only thing that was missing during verifiaction. Will come to know about it in another 10 days...

btw Where is the R-DOT label located?
i will check that , to find out if it was replaced. :crying:

That label is on the underside of the hood. It's the only label that comes on a replacement hood. Another way to tell if there's been some body work is to look at the bolts that hold the front fender down under the edges of the hood. If there's a break in the paint or if the bolt heads have any kind of marks on them...it's a good bet that the fender was removed for collision repair. But the fact that your hood has no emission label is probably proof enough. There's no reason to remove that label other than it was removed because it was attached to a wrecked hood.
kina
acutally i can see that someone has removed the sticker ...since i can see a sqaure area which is sticky..
I dont understand why on earth someone might have done that...
i called the person from whom i got he also said that car history is clean and he had no problems...he also said when he had got it registered he didnt have any problems....may be later during oil change or other work someone might have removed!!

i don't want to freak you out, but did you check with the TX DMV to make sure there's nothing fishy with the registration in TX?
