| We got our first one in. OK, so no really big changes. But I gotta say...the dark wood and aluminium (instead of black chrome) trim looks a lot better. |

Agreed, lets see em. I did see the black trim and I liked it. |

| So the next question is, can I replace the plood in my 05 with the new version? I never liked the burl plood. |
|

| I'm gonna run right out and trade in my obsolete '05 for a new '06 with improved fake-wood interior.......NOT! |

Tim:
You have some homework ! Can we (us 05 owners) switch the faux wood trim ?
supertech: did they lower the HP on the 06 model?  |

Fab, I know you were asking ST...but I know the answer: Honda/Acura didn't "lower" the horsepower. The 2006 engine is as strong as the 2005 model. What did change is the way SAE rates horsepower. Smaller multi-cam/multi-valve engines from Honda, Toyota, and others appear to take a hit in "rated" horsepower. Meanwhile many older design larger pushrod engines receive an "increase" in horsepower.......though nothing has changed.
The 2006 MDX is rated at 253 HP by the way. |

How fast can you change it out ? I think you should take one for a drive. |

Your average dealer would probably never notice..............:22:. I can see the new rash of posts now: "I just purchased a 2006 and the brochure says I am supposed to have ZebraWood trim, but it looks just like the old Burlwood. What gives?.........." |

Or, "My brand new X has swirls and scratches all over the center console woodgrain. How do I get them out ? And what the hell is wrong with Honda QC ?" :D |

| It would be kinda pricey, but all the fake burlwood parts can be replaced with fake zebra wood parts. All the aluminium trim though...that would cost too much. You can't just buy the knobs for the radio. So you'd have to buy a whole new radio unit. And that would be absurdly expensive. |

| My 05 has kinda of a metal finish backing with the faux wood. So does my 2004 RL, but REAL wood ! So the metal is different on the 06 ? If so how does it compare or differ from the 05 metal which is totally different from the 01-02- 03 & 04.....? |
|
|
| SuperTech |
Have you been in a TSX? That bright, but sort of matte finished aluminum in the interior? That's what the '06 MDX has now.
And that "real" wood in the RL....wow. You don't ever want to replace that. Just what's on the center console will cost in the thousands. Don't know what's so special about it. Just know that it's ultra expensive. |
|
|
| Fabvsix |
| That wood applied to the 1st generation RL was from one of the finest wood companies in Japan....Do your homework as you would understand why its so expensive......As I said, the first gen RL was Acura's "best kept secret".......I have NO clue about what's in the 05 RL. All I can say it doesn't look nearly as nice as in my 04.......kinda borderline "Fauxish"......... |

| The more I think about it the 06 got nothing because they are going to "redo" 07, so they are using up all the inventory ! Let's hope they don't screw up the 2007 MDX ! |

It just occured to me that this the end of an era in some respects. The 2006 represents the last model year of the car we all know and love (well, most of us), in it's original design.
Seems like yesterday when I saw my first MDX on a lot back in Massachusetts while I was shopping for a decent kiddie-hauler to replace my Subaru.
I'm getting all misty-eyed just thinking about it.... |

Not sure about that. Car manufacturers use just-in-time inventory. They've mastered the science of having just enough parts at just the right time -- no sooner, no later -- and have pushed their suppliers to manage that process as well. |

Just go to the gallery and look for a 2001-2005 picture. They all look the same as a 2006 to the untrained eye.:( |

And now that my eye is trained, I'd like to see some of the subtle differences!
See, look at my eyes -
When I arrived:

| Looking at the photo gallery on the acura website, looks like the upper dash is now black for the saddle interiors. And the steering wheel is also black. There is definitely a zebra pattern in the new look wood. Comments on the new interior looks?:D |
