Flat tire - Click HERE for Original Thread

Hi guys,

When I got to my X after work I noticed a flat tire on the front passenger side. I have 05/basic/6000 miles. When I took the X to nearest gas station to have the spare tire put on, they pointed out the "puncture wound" that was about 1/2 inch in length. Am I under any warranty from anyone for this? Looks like to wound is from the uneven side walk. If I am not covered, how many tires in total do I need to get in total? Should I do this in the dealer and what would be the cost? I have a 16 month toddler and last thing I want is to drive around with a donut with my baby. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think a puncture wound would be covered - check your tire warranty fine print to be sure. If you truly want to be paranoid about it, replace both front tires and rotate on a regular basis, and get an extra one while you're at it, to replace the donut and include that in the rotation if you plan to keep your X longer than the warranty. Costwise, you will probably do better at a tire shop than the dealer. The Michelin CTs, if that's what you have, run around $160, last time I checked at hondacuraworld. Good luck!

No tire warranty for this type of issue.

How many miles on your X? That makes a difference when deciding how many tires to buy...

How did you get to the gas station if the tire was flat? If you ran a flat tire it is probably ruined. Are you not able to change the tire yourself? If not I would suggest that you get insurance so that you can call for help and not ruin a tire in the future.

With only 6,000 mile on the vehicle I would only replace the bad tire with a like tire. DO NOt go through the dealer.

The suggestion to get a full size spare is very good. You do not want to run on a doughnut for many miles.

Thanks for all of your inputs. It has been raining like cats and dogs here in NY. And YES, I do not know how to change tires (never had this kin of problem in the past and it makes me feel like less of a man by admitting to this). I did take the initiative to open my manual book, went to the cargo area and went right back in and called the roadside assistance. I was not up to taking a shower with my cloth on and having to learn a new trade. The people at roadside assistance were very helpful and calming over the phone but it was going to take them 40 minutes to get to me. I knew of a gas station 2 blocks away from where I was so I drove (very slowly) and got a donut put on.
This morning, I had to drive through the rain again with my donut. I realize how intricate all the parts in the car relate to each other by slipping and sliding through puddles. I am going to get the full size spare so I would be donut free should there be another incident (I hope not). Thanks again guys.

[on soap box]

Don't feel bad- you probably were never taught.

I am teaching my 15.5 year old daughter how to change a tire as part of her driver training. Practice in the garage in a safe area. (Pick a nice sunny day, with no kid in the car freaked out.)

Part of not being a 'victim' in today's society. Gives you the ability to help youself- or not- but it is then your choice.

ardvarkus,

Thanks for that comment. Where was my father and why was he not doing his job? Growing up in NYC, we don't get exposure to certain things. There was NY Times article on people in their mid life learning how to swim or ride a bike.
I got a new tire from acura dealer in Brooklyn. It was a quickest and one of the cheapest I could get. With tax and everything, it came out to $211 and it was done in 1/2 hour. The acura dealer where I got my X from - paragon acura, there were quoting me closer to $375 for the same service.

WOW! That sort of tells you why it is not good to live in a large city. I spent 6 weeks in Brooklyn in 1948 visiting my Aunt. I learned right there that there was no way I was going to live that type of life.

Why would anyone go to dealer for a tire??? just go to any decent tire shop and you will save yourself a nice plane ticket from LA to SF\
Costco Had the tire for $160-165 installed with insurance & everything!!!

Alright, cut the guy some slack. It's already done, so no use beating him over the head with it. Now that he's a member of the 'org', we'll try to save him some $$$ the next time . . . darn 'stealers'.

Hey Pooh and everyone,

$160 with INS and all? That's great! I called around tire shops and I could not find anyone who could accommodate my schedule - first, I had to get it before Saturday, second, I can only do it during my lunch time.
You guys already saved me money on XM radio renewal - thanks for that.

BTW, if you guys need some flat repair, America Tire Co do it for free.
I got 2 nails on one of my original Michelins, they repair it in less than half an hour...no charge! I guess they do it for publicity and you don't have to buy the tires from them.:2:

Jeezzz. and to think I gave them money for tires for that benefit!!

:D

Well, that is a nice service. Costco used to do the same for any member, whether they bought tires from them or not.
But not anymore.

Well, I like Costco too, got most of the tires from them only once in a while, I buy it from America Tire Co. cause they usually cost 10% more than Costco's.:)

I bought four Michelin CTs from Costco yesterday for $656 out the door. Price includes lifetime (tire) balancing, rotation,
flat fixing and pro-rated road hazzard replacement. And they charge $1 each to dispose of the old tires.
