| Yup, I hear a very distinct mechanical/metallic sound when I'm in the garage watching my wife put the car in reverse and back out and again when she puts it in drive. I assumed it was normal. It better be normal, :). I can't hear it when I'm in the car. |

I do too. I think it is normal. All Honda's I have driven and/or notice has that shifting noise. It's almost a honda signature. Toyota and Nissan don't do that.
My old 86 Accord not only clicks, also jerks. But the transmission never had any problem, it was as reliable as it can be after 180K miles. I got used to the noise like I don't hear it any more. I can understand it gets first time Honda owners nervous.
2001 Accord also clicks when changing gear, but is much more muted. |

Sounds like it is normal, as everyone I have spoken with hears the same noise. It is particularly noticeable when going into/out-of "Park".
I guess the question should be, "Does anyone NOT hear a noise when shifting between gears?"
