I have contacted a few dealers to see what kind of deal I can get on a 2005 they may still have on the lots (via internet sales so far).
I was wondering what sort of trade-in values any of you may have got for a 2002 Touring model recently (no NAV or DVD option on mine). Mine has 37,000 miles. So far, the highest I was quoted was $ 24,500, which is basically the KBB-good condition quote. I realize that I can sell it myself, and may do that if I really find a super deal on a 2005 that I desire. |

Yup, as you already know, I got KBB Trade-In 'good' condition value on my '02 Touring w/52k miles back in August. My dealer was up-front w/me and said they never give 'excellent' condition on trade-ins, they usually go for fair-good. Here's some tips I can impart on you in retrospect:
- if a new purchase is imminent, try to defer upcoming maintenance and license fees.
- remove any accessories that you can cosmetically get away with and sell on the side, you get no credit for add-on accessories in a trade (ie wood wheel, wood knob, FSS, front deflector, moonroof visor, cargo tray, cover, net, etc)
- accessories that you will get partial credit include running boards/side steps, trailer hitch, upgraded wheels (check KBB for their list of recognized options) but you still may get better value by removing and selling yourself.
- oh, and run the gas tank as low as you can . . . ;)
If I only knew back then what I know now . . . |
