What is your loan % ? ... - Click HERE for Original Thread

I am talking with a few dealers and they all have said there is no incentive for loans so it will be a standard %, which I will find out today.

I was wondering what % you all got yours at, and do you have any suggestions for me to get the lowest % possible?

Is it normal to get a 6 year loan? The reason I ask is because I will have it completly paid off by this time next year, but until then I am just looking for the lowest monthly payment possible, the % doesn't really bother me as I know it will be paid off next year!

Any reply is greatly appreciated, thank you.

3.99% for a 5 year from USAA. I couldn't find a dealer-based loan that would come close.

I went to USAA.com and it shows it is for military, is this the correct one ?

Check your local credit unions. Our credit union has provided the lowest rate (outside of very low dealer incentive rates) for the last 3 or 4 auto loans we have had. Rates for 6 year loans are usually in the ballpark of half a percent higher than 4 or 5 year loans.

I think it was actually Lackland Federal Credit Union, or

www.airforcefcu.com

Yes - my wife was in the Air Force for a time, and that's where she established this account. She is no longer active, but still maintains an open account to reap the loan benefits. I don't know if they are exclusive for past and present military or not - but that may be the case.

FWIW, I just got email from the dealer where I bought and AHFC is running a 3.9%/60 mo. deal through the end of the month on '05 and '06 models.

Thanks guys for all your replies, THIS JUST IN....

I am going for the lowest payment for now so I am taking 72 months, since I will have it paid off in the next 12 months.

AHFC gave me a quote of 7.55%

I went through Lending Tree and just got a quote from Capital One Auto Finance for 5.6%, almost 2% lower, crazy !

Whats even better is they are sending me a blank check, next day air, I will have it tomorrow, at no charge. So now I am a cash buyer!

Looks like I am going with Capital One...

Did you call the dealer back with the 5.6%? Often the dealer rate miraculously drops to just below the best you could find. Then the dealer just does all the paperwork.

No I didn't. I will try that tomorrow and see how it goes. Thanks for the heads up.

USAA is strictly for military. It used to be just officers, but has now expended into the enlisted grades. You have to extablish the account while on active duty. Dependents can also get accounts.

Was that for 20% down? My credit union gives it's best rates when there is less risk of default.

Be careful of the fine print when using Cap1 for your auto buying. If I remember correctly, they only deal with certain dealers. I still think you could get better than that from a local credit union or your normal bank.

I am one of the fortunate ones that purchased the mdx touring w/Nav and RES during the summe time. I put 10K downd and financed the rest at .9% (less than 1% interest) for 36 months. Of course my monthly payment is over $900 bucks, but well worth it. :)

I'm lucky too I purchase at 1.9% for 60 months with American Honda.:2:

My credit union typically has the best rates around my area. They have several different rates, depending on what you're doing. Since I also have my house with them, I got an auto equity loan, which is similar to a home equity loan and you can write the interest off. THAT'S the way to go on a car!

Anyway, some places (Such as mine) give better rates for newer cars, worse rates for older cars. For a 2002, the longest loan they give is 5 years @ 6.24%. On a new car, it's 5.74%.

My rate for my 5 year loan when I bought was around 4% when the rates were GOOD, so if you're near that, good deal.

I got 0.9% for 3 years with 0 downpayment. I think it got a good deal.

3.5%/60 months from the dealer. It beat USAA by more than half a point at the time.

USAA is strictly for military and dependents. Used to be exclusively for officers.
