Remove MDX emblem? - Click HERE for Original Thread

I find it a pain to clean around the "MDX" emblem on the tailgate. I can't seem to get the tiny crevices clean, so I was thinking of just removing the problem entirely. Plus, I think it looks kind of cool when there is less eye candy on a vehicle, not more.

I was wondering if anyone has ever removed their "MDX" emblem from their X? Specifically, how is it held on to the tailgate? Glue? Holes through the sheet metal? Magic pixie dust?
If you have removed it, how did you go about it? If you still have yours on, how do you clean around it?

The "search" feature on this site is a great one....

Aren't you proud of your MDX?

I'd be a little miffed when someone asked me if it was a "budget" version of the MDX because of the missing emblems!

I clean mine with an old toothbrush and never thought of it as a hassle.

"Satisfied with" yes. "Proud of"? No.

I personally don't need an emblem to show off to others about what I have. Same with clothing, jewelry, etc.

What crmsnidol said!!!!:4: If you like the way the back looks with it on, then leave it on, but don't leave it on to impress others.

I *am* proud of it, and I love it. It is the best/nicest vehicle I have ever owned so far.

I want it to look nice. I keep it clean and take good mechanical care of it.

If you notice, there are only four factory emblems on the exterior of the X to begin with. I am glad that there is not an emblem indicating that I have one with navigation/touring like American carmakers like to do (such as Ford's Eddie Bauer editions. Who gives a fsck about that?) Such emblems would have to go immediately!

I'd like to replace the "ACURA" labeled bar above the license plate with a plain satin chrome or body-colored one, but I haven't seen any available on the 'net. Anybody know if they are made at all?

I don't mind the Acura logos under the rear window or the grill. Must be the graphic designer in me. ;)

I'm one for subtlety when it comes to customizing, being of the school "Less is more." For ex, I had my windows tinted. My X is black. I had LA Tint put really dark tint on the back 5 windows, and 50% on the front doors. Subtle, but highly effective on the overall look.

Like crmsnidol, I don't need others to know what I own to make me feel good. I don't wear clothes with big corporation logos on them, unless you count the one polo shirt with a Linux penguin on it. :)

BTW, the emblem came off with a little work. For those interested in doing the same, I used about half a box of Glide dental floss and a half gallon of microwaved-to-near-boiling hot water. Outdoor temps were in the low 50's. I started on the M and worked my way to the right, with the D being the toughest part.
Goo Gone got the residual adhesive off the paint with no ill effects. A little polishing compound applied gently and McGuiar's Gold finished the job. I can't even tell where the emblem used to be!

Thanks for everyone's tips!
