I have a new '05 3 months old and I have 2 problems.
1)a thunking noise when the car stops and accelerates quickly. I was told this is the gas tank but it is really annoying. For a 40k car I hope this can be fixed.
2) one am the car would not start and nothing was left on. The battery is fine. I was told that the car cannot be started, turned off and started again without moving it 3 miles. I moved it out of the gargage to clean it and then back into the garage the next day. I can't believe it would be too much fiel for the engine as if this is true what happens if a valet moves it a couple of times. Please help me with these 2 problems. |

1) Sounds like the infamous gas tank slosh, some notice it more than others based on their driving style - there's no real fix.
2) Not true at all. Although if you have Navi and/or DVD, you cannot leave them running for long without starting the vehicle or the battery will die. Have the battery and charging system checked. |

thanks,
in terms of question #2. when we went to the dealer they told us never to start and stop the car quickly. If this is not the case then what caused the failure and what do I need to have checked? |

How did you get it to start after it would not? Did it just start after some period of time or did you jump start it? If you had to jump start it then I would have the battery and charging system (alternator, etc) checked. If you did not, then I would suspect a key recognition problem. |

Find a new dealer. That one does not know what they are talking about. |

The primary reason to not start and stop the vehicle within a short time period is that the engine should be run sufficiently long to "dry out" the system. You want to bring the engine up to operating temperature and have everything stable before shutdown. Also it is good to replace the charge in the battery that was just used for starting. This is the ideal. Obviously this is not reasonable or practicable at all times.

| thanks for all your help. I was told not to jump the car and acura towed the vehicle and started it in the dealership. Should i try to start and stop the vehicle again. As noted it was started for 2 minutes to move the car out of the garage. It was left outside overnight and then restarted for 2 minutes to bring it back in. The next day it would not start and I was told it was due to the computer letting in too much fuel for the engine. Is this true and can I feel comfortable that this will not happen again. |

Not likely unless there is a problem with the engine control unit. Did the engine crank or was there just a clicking sound? What exactly happened when it would not start?
G. Colton is correct in stating that in an ideal situation you want to run the vehicle for approx 20 minutes on every trip to evaporate the water out of the exhaust system. This simply prolongs the life of the exhaust system and should not be a cause of not starting. |

Maybe the X was just trying to tell you it doesn't want to be left outside :2:
All Jokes aside, what did it sound like when you tried to start it? Did it sound like it was flickering, where the lights and dashboard lights flickering when you tried to start it?
If so, it was a weak battery, same thing happened to me. I got it started after a while of it sitting, then took it to the dealer, but of course by the time I got there the battery was recharged, however since it was under warranty and the dealership was 100% certain it was the battery because of the sounds it made, they replaced the battery and everything has worked well since.
*Note mine happened on the first weekend I got it because I was playing with the navigation and dvd system so it drained the battery. I learned the hard way you should not play with those systems for more than 15-20minutes without the X running. |
