| I have had my 05 MDX for 2 months now and it has been broken into twice I spoke to the dealer in SF and they mentioned thieves can use a lock picking tool to unlock your car door. Supposedly this is a huge problem in my area. The part I have a problem with is the way the alarm is set up once you unlock the door through the key hole it turns off the alam (I confirmed this with the dealer, the chip in the key only prevents the engine from starting with a fake key not the door). I understand that cars are going to get broken into regardless of what you do, but the fact that my alarm isn't even going off is a joke. Are there any fixes other than an aftermarket alarm system someone can think of? Anyway to program the alarm to go off anytime you unlock it through the key hole even if it is the correct key? |

1. Don't leave valuables in plain view inside the vehicle including coins, CD's, DVD's or toys.
2. Park in well-lit areas
3. If you have expensive stereo equipment installed, don't flaunt the system in bad areas of the city or near where you park overnight.
4. Add a cargo cover
5. Add darker tint to the windows - what a thief can't see won't tempt him/her.
6. Ask your insurance carrier for options. All have material available that provide ideas on reducing the possibility of theft. |

| all good suggestions, only problem is I do all these things already. They are stealing stuff like change, car chargers, and other stuff that is out of sight. more anoying than anything else not to mention I usually have a couple of lovely new scratches every time it happens. Apparently the lock is so easy to pick they are doing it regardless of things being visible because they know they wont get caught. If someone could let me know if anyone knows how to insure the alarm would sound I think this would do the trick. As of now I might as well not even bother to lock my car. |

There is nothing you can do with the factory alarm to make it sound when the door is unlocked. After all, as far as the car is concerned it is a proper key opening the door so it should *not* sound.
Unfortunately your only solution is an aftermarket alarm. I've got a Viper and I love it. I *can* leave the car unlocked and if someone opens the door it will sound. |

| Why not disable the keylock ? Of course having a dead battery will be a bummer since it will be harder to get in, but that's what I'd do. |

| The same thing was happening to my GM truck which had a rudimentary factory alarm and no door markings indicated that it even had an alarm. After the third break in attempt, I purchased aftermarket alarm window stickers and applied them to the windows. I did not purchase an alarm but it appeared that I had installed a decent aftermarket alarm system. Haven't had a problem since and it only cost me a few bucks. |

| If I disable the door lock and my alarm battery dies or my car battery dies how would I get into my car other than breaking in myself? |

Not if the car battery is dead, which is the dilemma he is pondering. |

Why all the fuss about the key lock on the door? Do we know for sure these doors not be opened with a slim-jim without the factory alarm going off?
If the doors can be opened at all, not matter how, even a simple $50 alarm (with on-board battery power) will go off. |

And who is going to pay attention to an alarm going off? Isn't that the official bird in a lot of states now............. |

Haha! Very true! It certainly is near Fresno CA where car theft is a recreational pastime! |

I guess you missed the topic of this thread, I was wondering if they fixed the problem on the 2006's of being easy to be broke into. |

I'm still trying to find out how to actually set the alarm off! The doors can even be opened from the inside with not even a peep. What has to occur before it finally goes off?

Ok, I tried again and it does go off when the manual lock is lifted. I always unlock using the electronic switch, which does not set it off.
