Have 40,000 miles on my 2004 MDX OEM Michelin's.
Am getting ready for a trip from Houston to Minneapolis.
Considering the potential for snowy weather, is it time to buy new tires?? |

| Probably, but tough to say without a visual inspection. |

| On several places of the tire there is a minimum tread marker. It is just a piece of rubber that spans from one tread to the other. When the tread reaches that point, you need to replace the tire. I hope you can understand my explanation. |

Better to be safe than sorry.
Try the Goodyear Fortera Silent Armor tires. I have had them on 3 different SUV's now and they are much better than the stock tires!
Excellent handling in all conditions, better braking and a much better ride than the stock Cross Terrains.
70,000 tread life warranty as well....Awesome tires! |

This question can only be answered by someone who is able to physically inspect your tires. Take your vehicle to a tire dealer or two and see what they say. Also be sure to get their rationale as to why they should or should not be replaced at this time.

Had a Goodyear shop inspect my tires. They are Michelin Cross Terrains with 40K miles. He said they looked good and did not need replacing, even with my impending trip to the north.
He also said the the Michelin Cross Terrains were about the best you could get, and was kinda surprised that they came as OEM.
The treads have cross cuts in them all the way done to the major radial cut. These cross cuts help move the water out. |

| After 65K miles I am thinking about replacing my Michelin tires. Is this mileage high by comparison? :D |

I changed my stock 17" Michelins at 47K just before a 2K summer road trip. I could have kept them on for another 5K but didn't want to take the chance while touring the southwest on vacation.
65K sounds great! |

I assume it doesn't snow where you live!
DO NOT run tires this far if you drive in the snow.
65k is great mileage on an MDX...

Agree with this - I am not down to the wear markers quite yet and the tires do pass the "penny test" but with 49.500 on mine (michelins), they were not very good in the last snow storm, stopping especially.
I'm going to be putting on the Forterra's in a few weeks. |
