I don't want to seem stupid but here is my situation. I own an 02 "X" recently had it serviced at a dealer. Recently had problems with my aftermarket alarm. So, I went to use my key in the door-it doesn't work. After careful inspection, I realize the key is cut wrong. I have used the key before and it worked. My two questions are:
1. Can another key work in my ignition-this key does start the car?
2. The factory alarm transmitter attached to this key also works-is that possible?
Thanks for the responses. |

I cannot follow what you are saying.
Did this happen on the first time after after the vehicle was in the shop?
What are you comparring the key to? How do you know it is cut different?
What does your alarm have to do with the problem?
How many keys do you have for the vehicle? Do all of them have the same problem?
Etc??

Sorry about the confusion.
Usually don't use the key-use the factory keyless entry remote.
1. This is the third time the car has been in the shop, but I never used the key to open the door until this past Sunday.
2. My wife has the second set of keys (valet and original), so I compared it to hers.
3. The alarm only led me to trying my key to get into the car.
4. No, only my set has the problem. The Valet key is in the bypass for the alarm, so I only have the original (screwed up) and my wife has a set as stated in 3.
Anyone please? I don't want to start complaining if my complaint is not legit. |

I understand you to say that your key does not work in the door but that it does work in the ignition. Your key also does match the key kept by your wife.
I would take the keys to your dealer and find out what is happening.

| My key doesn't match my wife's. Is it possible to not work in the door, but works in the ignition? I will take it to the dealer. |

| Are you the original owner of the MDX? |

No, I'm not the original owner. Would that make a difference in the key not working in the door, but working in the ignition? Please forgive me, reading the last statement gives the impression that I'm being a wise-**-I am not. For me, the biggets provblem is that I can't remember ever using the key, so I don't want to say the dealership lost my key etc.
Looking at my OP, my questions were can a key work in the ignition but not the door. And can any acura "X" factory keyless entry alam work for any "X". This could possibly give me a leg to stand on when I confront my dealer. |

Nor does anyone think you are.
My thought was perhaps the vehicle had been broken into before and they just changed one lock cylinder during the repair, but that really doesn't make much sense either now that I think about it.
Anyone else have any bright(er) ideas? |

| Could two differently cut keys work in the ignition? |

Are you saying that both your different keys work in the ignition but not the door? |

| Yes, that's exactly what I am saying. |

| Im betting maybe the key that doesn't fit the door may not have been cut properly. If it is a replacement. Take them both to a locksmith and have him check them. |
