I have a 2006 MDX just got it on NOV 2005 with NAVI. My front driver side door panel chipped off about the size of a small black bean and the dealership say it was due to road hazard where a stone or small rocks have knocked off the black paint. However, when I question about the amount of layer of paint that was taken off on the panel they say it was due to high speed impact of small stones that knocked off the paint. Does anyone knows if this ever happended to them . I mean, I have drove other cars before over tons of miles and never got this issue. And now my 2006 MDX is only 800miles and now the paint was chipped off which makes me very curious if it was the manufacture defects on coating the blk. nighthawk during the heating process. By far, by the time I got back to the shop they discover another chipped paint about the same size from the original. But this time I complaint to them that it was not there during the morning when I lefted the 'X at the shop so they say they cleaned off and rub it off by accident. Oh yeah, I can see about 4 layer of paint fall off and no dents or scratch or whatsoever. If I have to paint it back can I D.I.Y and where can I obtain those orginal color of the blk. nighthawk.
By the way the dealer told me to contact my insurance company for this coverage due to road hazard!

You know I wouldn't doubt if it was a door ding. Of course this depends on where the chip is.

What you are describing does happen due to road hazards. However, without looking at your vehicle nobody can tell you what caused it. Even looking at it would not be a sure fire method of determining the cause.

Touching up this spot is NOT a do it yourseft project unless you are very experienced.

I'd contact a NON-DEALER AFFILIATED body shop and ask them if they can inspect the car and determine, in their expert opinion, if there is a paint adhesion defect in the area around the chip.

If they can do so, and document that, it is an acura defect.

believe it or not, you may be looking at $1200 to color blend and clear coat that baby (if it is into the other door or front fender..)

Is the chip that they admitted to causing next to the original one? They should pay to fix the one they caused and the if the original one is next to it, it will get fixed also.

Paint chipping happend to us all the time. One of our vehicles travels 80 miles a day during all types of New England weather. We find stone chips all over the place, especially in the winter months.
