Strange beeping sound - Click HERE for Original Thread

I have this strange beeping sound coming from the radio area. The only way I can describe it is a series of rapid beeps, kinda like a child hand-held game. It starts rapid and then slows. It seems to occur when I move from a stand still, but I have it occuring on the highway as well. The sound lasts for about 15 seconds. It sounds like a childish alarm. I've pushed every dashboard button with no success. Anybody know what this is? And how to fix it?

Cell phone stored in the area under the radio?

Sounds right to me, That noise drove me nuts before I discovered it was the cell phone stored near the radio.

It's not the cell phone. My cell phone is always attached to my belt clip. I have nothing else that I carry that can cause interference. This beeping sound *seems to be associated with the semi-circular miliage column on the screen. It seems to do it when the column climbs to about half way.

This my next best guess is a ground fault. Do you have any aftermarket speakers, head unit, video, etc. installed?

Is the sound similar to the beeping you get when the parking brake is partially applied while you are in gear?

I drove for a while with the park gear partially applied. I did not hear a beep sound. I would imagine that this alert would be loud much like the door chime alert when you open the door. The beeper sound I am describing is much, much lower. I tried to record some audio because it is doing it rather frequently now, but the audio was very terrible. I'm really at a loss here.

vapor,
What year/model do you have? Is it used or new? If it's used, could it be some sort of aftermarket product that was added that you are not aware of (faulty backup sensors, etc.)?

Did you wear your seatbelt? If not it might the audible reminder that your are not buckled in.

Also try to turn on/off your air. See if it makes a difference.

Maybe take it back to the dealer??

Let them figure it out if it is under warranty...(you didn't say how old your X is)

There's no warranty on the vehicle. I bought it off an 01 lease return. 60k+ on the dash. The seatbelt alarm is way too loud compared to this noise. I always have my belt on btw. From the replies, it doesn't seem to be anything factory. Yesterday, I couldn't reproduce it until after I had driven for a while. It came on immediately after I put the seat warmer on - but I think that was coincidence. I notice it is staying on a lot longer. I'll try to get an audio of it again thru my cell phone and post here. The noise (music notes really) aren't causing a problem, it's just difficult to *unhear it now.

I think it is your cell phone. I have the same experience with my radio at my office desk. Try to turn off you cell phone and let's see if the problem presists.

Could be a low battery alarm? Not sure why it would come on while driving, but turning the seat warmer on is a clue.

I had the same sound occur after tailgaiting (at a football game, not getting to close to the car in front of me...) with the radio on for a long time. I ran the battery down to a point where an alarm sounded when I tried to turn on the entertainment system.

I've solved this mystery. Discussing the situation with my wife, she indicated that the kids toy dice is the responsible culprit. It fell somewhere between the seat and center console and makes a noise whenever the ride gets bumpy. Sure enough, I found the culprit and quickly destroyed it (the toy dice, not the kid).

:2: at least, no major repair bill.

Try to put the car on natural then idle. IF you hear the noise, then it's caused by bad spark plugs.

You mean it wouldn't be the toy dice that he already found and removed? At least read the last few posts before responding...

If I had to guess what it is I would say toy dice between the seat and center console is the culprit. Just call it a hunch I guess....:D :D :D
