Few days ago suddenly there is a noticiable hissing sound from the air-conditioning. I know it is because if I turn off the air, the hissing sound is gone. Its getting louder that I can now hear it while driving at all speed, then it quit working.
It doesn't cool now.
I'm planning to have it checked but before go i need some info because I have no idea about this thing. I read that says it could just be a refrigerant and it is owner servicable.
If it is, is it a DIY task? Anybody here have done it before?
I hate going to the dealer this time of year if I can just grab a can of refrigerant do it myself.
Thanks. |

| You should bring it in to have it checked out, there could be a leak somewhere, and just adding a can of refrigerant will not fix the problem. Good luck and let us know how you make out. |

| I'll go to Honda dealer tomorrow since the nearest Acura dealer right now is about 250 miles away. |

It is not very DIY friendly.
If a compressor or valve malfunctions, pressures et out of whack and it may sound like hissing. If the hissoing is loss of freon then putting more in will not fix it!
You need a schematic, service manual, service guage set and freon supply- not really DIY.
Any competent AC tech should be able to diagnose it- preferrable a Honda/Acura trained tech. I hate taking it to a dealer....
