OK, I gotten a lot of info from this site and thought I might have something to give back.
Had the old Subwoofer rattle thing that I looked up here and expected the dealer to take care of with soundproofing material when I took it to him.
Slightly annoyed that I couldnt duplicate what I had been hearing for the service woman (nice change) to hear.
She added lots of matting to satisfy what apparrently only I heard as a problem and I headed out.
Before I could leave the lot I heard the damn thing again and backed up to the bay and made them listen.
You could hear it clearly from outside the MDX.
Long story (sorry) short the technician found a flap that allows air to be exhausted when the doors close so the passenger compartment wont be pressurized. This small device is located near the sub and is adjustable.
They tightened it and the noise went away.
Has anyone else heard of this "flap" or still have a rattle after padding was applied?
Hope this helps. |

I have the slightest of rattles after the padding was applied. And it's only with songs with a lot of bass. I'm going to ask the dealer to adjust this "flap" the next time I'm in for service.
Thanks for the news. |

They made it seem as if it were located in the same area as the subwoofer but nothing more than that. I am sorry I dont have more info. Probably easier to look from the outside of the vehicle than to start opening up stuff from the inside.
Let me know if you find it, damn thing is rattling again!

| Are you guys looking for this thing?? Probably should first try inside the subwoofer cavity instead of removing the bumper. But then again the service manual shows the left side of the vehicle... not sure if there's another one on the right side near the subwoofer:confused: |

Thanks to you guy's help I solved the rattle problem. It is an easy fix that you might not have to brother the deal with (they could mess things up).
The fix:
-You will have to remove the subwoofer.
-If you are facing the speaker, the black plastic box pictured by MDXX3 above is at the bottom right of the subwoofer.
-Stick a piece of wax paper or sound damping fiber (anything that is waterproof) into the box.
-You are trying to keep a thin plastic flap in that small box open so it will not flap when the subwoofer is on.
Hope that helps. |
