Navigation downgrade? - Click HERE for Original Thread

Just wondering if others have experienced this.

I have 2003 NAVI/RES. When I bought the car a couple of weeks ago, the compass rose (or North/Direction indicator) to the best of my recollection was in the upper left hand corner.

Since the battery was original I decided to go ahead and replace it with a new one. This obviously also reset the NAVI.

Now, the compass rose is in the upper right hand corner and it appears to be an inferior icon for lack of a better term than the one I remember seeing.

I later found the current owner was selling a 3.40 orange DVD on ebay. So my guess is that he loaded the 3.40 disc at one time and then replaced the disc in the drive with my original which is 3.2 orange. All is working well and in fact some roads that were listed as unamed are now named correctly.

Weird.

I assume each new DVD has software updates and the new battery caused me to downgrade to the 3.2 level. No biggie since I am ordering a 3.5 this week. Anybody else experience the same thing?

Not sure about the 3.xx discs, but when I attempted to swap out a 2.11c from my MDX to a 2002 RL that still had 2.05, and then swapped back, the NAV system was not able to downgrade. It kept saying wrong disc, and to see the dealer. So now I'm waiting for the 2.40 to come out.

There is a way to make it load the older software. Using the three hard keys to access the diagnostic mode, you can find a selection "force download" which allows you to overwrite newer firmware with an older version.

I question the integrity of anyone low enough to downgrade the disc prior to sale. How else might you have been gigged?
