If you haven't heard of it, Guitar Hero is timing game like Dance Dance Revolution but you use a miniature guitar instead of a dance pad. An on-screen fret board displays colored "chords" you have to play by pressing the button combinations while strumming on the guitar's strum key. It sounds a little tedious but it's not - it's so much fun and you feel as if you are accomplishing something when you score well on a song. As you get better at the game, more keys are added to the songs so you can progress at your own pace and reduce frustration.

The game is currently hard to find in stores because it became much more popular than expected. There are 47 songs and unlockables in the game.

No. It's just a game.

I finally got a chance to play it over the weekend at Circuit City. I think I might have to buy it. They told me there's another version coming out with possibly a better guitar.

It comes out Nov 7th. They will probably offer a different color or style of guitar but I think the functionality will stay the same.

I've been playing Dance Dance Revolution with my daughter and her friends. We got two of the mid-level pads and they work great. They are made by the same company that makes Guitar Hero - Red Octane.

Yikes, a couple of those songs would be nice to have, but there's a lot of generation Z on there.

crmsnidol,
Along the same lines...
Have you tried Taiko Drum Master? If you can get a second drum, you could do duets too. I wish they would come out with a new version with new songs.

No I haven't but I bet it's fun. As I get older (turning the big 4-0 next year), I find that I want more innovation in the games that I spend time playing. I still love FPS's but they are pretty much all the same gameplay with different graphics. The interactive games like DDR, Guitar Hero and the new Nintendo Wii system are what we'll be playing in my house. The interactive games are also the ones that my 7 yr old daughter gravitates to. As much as a I try I can't get her interested in anything else including the Disney or Barbie games.

BTW, I have a couple of Dreamcast systems and regret not picking up Samba De Amigo and the maraca controllers but they were waaaaay too expensive when released. To play that game with 2 players would have been a $200 investment!

9.5 RATING. Review at IGN.com http://ps2.ign.com/articles/743/743905p1.html

Closing Comments
Guitar Hero II takes everything that made the original game great and cranks it up to 11, maybe even 12. The Practice mode and ability to set individual difficulty levels in multiplayer are fantastic additions that really were our two biggest sticking points last time out. The Cooperative multiplayer is a huge amount of fun, and three buttons chords help take the game's challenge to the next level. RedOctane once again nailed down a fantastic song list, Wave Group Studio again recreated them expertly and Harmonix implemented the tracks perfectly. This is the nearly-perfect sequel to one of our favorite games in basically forever, and it's an absolute must-buy.

9.5 Gameplay
Easily one of the most fun games on the planet. Practice mode, Co-op play, three button chords and more take what was already amazing to the next level.
