Driving home after a week in Orlando through the Virginia mountains, I started to notice a decrease in mileage I was getting (by adding together the distance travelled on the trip meter and the calculated distance remaining from the computer).
At first I thought it was because of the inclines so I kept a closer watch on the remaining distance numbers).
It got to a point where the distance remaining was zero, while the fuel gauge was a little more than a 1/3 of a tank. I continued to drive for another 80+ miles or so until I got to 1/8 of a tank of gas, all the while the distance to empty indicator read zero.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Any thoughts as to whether the climb through the mountains somehow affected the way the computer performed the distance calculations?
Two weeks ago, I had the tranny replaced. Could this have something to do with it?
Thanks. |

The fuel usage computer on the MDX is not the best out there! The calculation that you are noting is particularily bad. About the only thing that I pay any atten to is the mpg and that is pretty good.

The distance to empty calculation factors in a reserve amount of fuel. That amount is programmable. I think you have to go into the diagnostic screens to change it.
However, what you described seems WAY off. I'd probably start by checking the programmed reserve amount and go from there.
If you do a search on this forum, you should find instructions on how to do this.
