Although I have not seen the new Tahoe in person yet I've glanced at a couple reviews in auto mags and on Edmunds.... I thought I may never see it in my lifetime but the words "quality interior" and "Chevrolet" appeared in the same sentence in all the reviews. :) It certainly sounds like a step forward. Of course this is still a big truck and with the price of gas and the move to cross-over SUVs it's to be seen if the Tahoe/Suburban/Yukon line will be a sales success. I do want to see GM succeed for the long term so I hope so.

Although GM does have a very fuel efficient V8. The 5.3L in my Silverado CC gets within 1 mpg (both hwy and city) of our MDX and Pilot and it is a lot heavier.

Isn't your Silverado Rwd vs Awd for the MDX/Pilot ?
Not quite apples to apples in terms of fuel efficiency . . .

It's RWD/AWD/4wd so I am carrying around all that associated drivetrain weight also. I agree it is not apples to apples because the Silverado is a lot heavier.

A Silverado with the AutoTrac transfer case is pretty much the same thing as an MDX. 2wd until slippage is detected...then it becomes awd. A Silverado 4x4 is probably in the neighborhood of 5500 pounds.

I've seen the new Tahoe/Yukon with my own eyes. It actually looks much bigger from the front and rear. And the interior does look really nice. The dual mode hybrid version they having coming in a year sounds interesting. As does the 380 or 400hp Denali and Escalade with a 6 speed automatic.
