Car Alarm Problem - Click HERE for Original Thread

Something really strange happened with my MDX this morning.

I got into it and started it up, put it in reverse to back out of the driveway, and all of a sudden the alarm goes off “HONK! FLASH! HONK! FLASH!" I pulled it into the garage so it wouldn't disturb the neighbors (too much) and after about half a minute it stopped it’s tirade. I wanted to check the manual to see what it said about the alarm system, but when I opened the MDX passenger door to get the manual out of the side-pocket, the alarm starts yelling at me again! Suddenly I’m public enemy #1, and here I thought we were getting along so well! :) Anyway, I shut the door and dashed back into the house – sans manual – and phoned hubby. He advised using his remote (I felt no need for the remote so I had given it to him) to lock and unlock the doors a couple times and *then* try opening the door. I did so, without incident. I grabbed the manual and went back inside. The manual says *nothing* about the alarm or it’s temperaments.

My Question, therefore, is this: Can I safely assume that it was the *remote* that calmed the thing down, and can I, within reason, expect no further complaints from my vehicle? Is it the remote that operates as a sort of “Car Whisperer”? I’m afraid to go near my MDX for fear of setting it off again. It was very traumatic! :(

Any insights and advice would be most beneficial! Thanks in advance ...

So later this morning, I decide to try driving the car to the library. I open up the passenger-side door to put some stuff in, with no problem. Then, I go around to the driver's side door, and open that up, and I hear a soft "bzzzzzzzzzzzzp!" followed by a "beep".

I closed the driver's side door and went back in the house. I can walk to where I need to go today! :D

This could have been the memory seat repositioning.

That is a very good point! Because I used DH's remote to lock/unlock the doors a couple times before attempting to get in this last time too (sort of a techno way of saying "Nice doggie ... Niiiiice doggie ... " to it :D), so perhaps it was thinking DH was getting into the car and re-adjusting the seat accordingly.

Thank you for your input ... perhaps I'll give it a go later this afternoon (with ear protection just in case). :)

I don't suppose you might have grabbed the remote somehow, huh?

The only way I can think of that your alarm would go off as you describe, would be the red emergency panic button on the remote.

Next time, bring a rolled up newspaper. Whack it on the snout if it gives you grief like that again. You have to show these things who's the leader of the pack.

:D That's the irony -- up to that point I had no use for the remote and therefore had given it to DH. I had long ago made a habit of entering my cars the "old fashioned" way just using the regular keys (although I had to keep reminding myself with this MDX that the only keyhole on the vehicle is on the driver's side  ). DH and I are trading keys and I am using the remote from now on. This morning I put on ear protection, went out to the garage, got in, started the car, put it in reverse, and everything went fine. :2:

I'll keep that rolled-up newspaper on hand, though ... just in case! :D

Didn't your vehicle come with 2 remotes, 2 keys and a valet key? It should have.....

We had gotten ours used, and only one remote and the two keys were available.

Are both keys black on top?

Yep, they are.

OK then you have two regular keys. The reason I asked is the one with the red top is a valet key and I was thinking maybe that was contributing to your problems.

Replacement remotes and instructions for programming them are located in several threads such as this one in this forum. I suggest you do a search for remote or keyless entry to find more threads if you are interested in adding another.

Take care.

I bought a TL remote on eBay for about $20. I just checked and you can get a used MDX remote for $20 to $30, including shipping.
