DVD wiring questions

I'm getting ready to install an overhead DVD player. For the lights, is the MDX a positive or negative switch system? For the power for the unit, can I just tap into the overhead dome light's power, or do I need to run the lines to the fuse box? If I go to the fuse box, do I just use an un-used slot?
