Great instructions on changing oil. Is it necessary to torque the oil plug? And what is the amount of torque needed? It seems difficult to get enough leverage to torque the plug when under the MDX without having to jack up the vehicle.

Yes you should always torque it. Most people overtighten it and the threads in the pan can be stripped/compromised. I believe the correct spec is 29 ft/lbs. It will surprise you how little that is.
