It seems that my driver side seat heater is having a problem. My bottom is cold and my back is burning. I've even started to smell a slight burning smell, and I don't think it's my coat. I'm taking it into the shop very soon (not turning it back on unti then) but I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem. My thought is that the bottom part is not working and all the power is going to the back of the seat.

You're doing the correct thing by taking it back to the dealer. Let them deal with it.

Have you used the seat heaters very often in the past or is it the first time you are using it ?

Whatever you do, avoid flatulating while the thing is turned on.

My heated seat just did the opposite. The bottom part is warm but the back is not. I was wondering if the back has the heating elements. Now I have to take it to the dealer to check it out.

I have been using the seat heaters every winter since 2003. Just this year starting getting extra hot on the back, and a bit of a burning smell.

Took to the dealer. Looks like the seat heater pad failed and all the energy went to the back heater pad overheating it. Wires burned (also smelled) in seat. Dealer ordering new pads. Will need to be in for a full day because they need to remove the seat and they say it is a ***** to pull off/on the seat covers.

it will only take 2 hours to replace both seat heater grids in the drivers seat.
what happens is the center seam in the leather cover has a metal rod to pin is against the cushion, after time this rod pinches the seat heater wire and causes it to break, thus not working anymore.
dont worry about it catching fire, the cushion, heater grid and leather cover are all flame retardant. |
