Lately I've been evaluating many different internet browsers. I need to simultaneously monitor many different addresses for status and activity (work related), so I am settling with Firefox at the moment. I like that I can open a bunch of sites in tabs simultaneously and monitor them.

But is there anything better out there?

IE7b2

I also run Konqueror from a Knoppix live linux disc from time-to-time.
Blackura
NetCaptor. Tabbed similar to FireFox, but nobody writes viruses for such an obscure program.

Never had a problem when I switched over to Firefox.

IE . . . too many pop ups.

Agree, FF seems better. PC World claims it has about 1/2 the number of security holes as IE.

Probably not to a non-computer person. But that's like asking a non-car person: "Is there any real difference between an RL and a Taurus?". They both have four tires and will get you from point A to point B.

Plus I like the customizability of Firefox.

I don't know if it's just my particular setup (older P4 1.6 GHz WinXP Home 512 MB RAM) but whenever I have multiple tabs or windows open, and then open a webpage requiring Adobe PDF plug-in, when I close that page, some or sometimes even all of the open browser windows and tabs crash. It doesn't happen all the time. I still prefer FF over IE although I resort to the latter every now and then when there's a page accessible only by IE.

More like 1/20th. From SANS NewsBites vol8 num25:

--Web Sites Exploiting IE Flaw; Microsoft Working On Fix
(27/24/23 March 2006)
There are reports that web sites are already exploiting the Internet Explorer TextRange () flaw to install spyware on vulnerable computers.
As of Monday morning, more than 200 such sites have been detected. The flaw exists in IE 6 and IE 7 beta 2; this marks the third IE vulnerability disclosed in one week. Microsoft is developing a fix.
Users are advised to disable Active Scripting in IE.

I use IE7b2 too and I like it better than FF. I used to use FF before I try IE7. I like it so far except that I get timeouts whenever the pages take too long to load.

I have that experience with FF on occassion. Although I find that less a problem than dealing with potential security risks.
I also find using IE for some sites a bit inconvenient but I guess nothing is perfect.

They just don't stop!

From SecurityFocus Newsletter #343:

Microsoft Internet Explorer Script Action Handler Buffer Overflow Vulnerability
BugTraq ID: 17131
Remote: Yes
Last Updated: 2006-03-27
Relevant URL: http://www.securityfocus.com/bid/17131
Summary:
Microsoft Internet Explorer is susceptible to a remote buffer-overflow vulnerability in 'MSHTML.DLL'. The application fails to properly bounds-check user-supplied input data before copying it into an insufficiently sized memory buffer.

Remote attackers may exploit this issue to crash affected web browsers. Remote code execution may also be possible, but this has not been confirmed.

Internet Explorer 6 is vulnerable to this issue; other versions may also be affected.

I have a dual monitor setup so when Im relaxing in my chair reading, I LOVE using Opera browser, because It has a nice zoom feature.
Also opera seems to work flawlessly for me.
I like it over firefox & IE7-for now.
IE7b2 seems to still be a bit buggy, but you'll have that since it's still in beta stage.

But yes give Opera a try. I think you'll be very satisfied!:D

I was doing the same thing, so I deleted my IE icons! I have Firefox set up to open pages that require IE (like Windows Update) to use the IE engine. So I never need to open IE anymore. And you can have FF and IE tabs open in the same session too, so you still only need a single occurrence of FF up at any one time no matter how many web pages you have opened.

IE..i like using when i do the CTRL-N. mozilla will just direct you to your default homepage. i actually use both.. well, what's good with Firefox on the other hand is that it runs faster than IE.

I guess this one is pretty much closed, now that IE7 has basically copied the features people like from Firefox. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em!

So once you start using IE7, please remember that Microslop...err I mean Microsoft didn't come up with the user friendly features!
