A thread in the Maintenance section reminded me I need to change my VTM 4 fluid for the second time, so I called my closest Honda and Acura dealers to see who had the cheapest price on fluid. It kinda went like this:

Me: What's your best price on the VTM fluid?

Honda: $26.54.

Me: Gee, that's kinda high. Can you do any better?

Honda: No.

Me: Bye

Me to Acura: What's your best price on the VTM fluid?

Acura: $35 plus tax.

Me: Wow! That's REALLY high. It wasn't that high last time.

Acura: When was last time?

Me: Oh, I dunno. Over a year.

Acura: Yeah, the price went up.

Me: How about a deal for a good customer?

Acura: $19.06

Me: Be right down.

My receipt showed list to be $22.48 and net to be $17.98 ($19.06 w/ tax)

A friend of mine needed a new keyfob for his Navigator. The Lincoln dealer said they didn't have the exact price but it would be over $100. Since I suggested that was ridiculous, I volunteered to call a Ford dealer and got a quote of $35 and change. Since he was spending $900 on tires he figured he'd might as well ask. Sure enough, they matched the price.

A few times I've been quoted the wholesale price for parts on the phone and various places have tried to charge the full price once I was there. What a weird business. I guess that's what makes working with Tim so pleasurable.
