Last Friday, I had some down time at work and started browsing the web and stumbled upon this little thing. I received it last night (they offered me a 3 month trial of Amazon Prime) and started playing with it. Now I just want to share my excitement with the rest of you.
My first loaf (egg bread) turned out fantastic. The crust was crispy and the middle soft and chewy. It tasted better than any prepackaged bread I've ever had. Since it was still early, I decided to bake a different one for my wife for breakfast. I saw a packet of Quaker's brown sugar instant oatmeal lying around and decided to use that along with some honey. I didn't get to taste that one but from my wife's co-workers feedback, it was amazing as well.
Now, I'm not exactly a bread expert but I know good quality food when I taste them. I recommend to any one that enjoys eating fresh bread to give this machine a shot. Be sure to read some of the reviews for it. Many people feel the same way I do about this machine. And for those that think this isn't practical for larger families, someone mentioned that in the time it takes to make a 2lb loaf on a conventional machine, you could make three loaves of these, in different flavors too! |

| God I love homemade bread! I just dropped an email to the wife asking her to make up a loaf of sourdough in our bread maker if she has the ingredients :) |

We have a Kenmore, and love it. Nothing like fresh warm bread in the morning..
Some of the best pre-mixes we found are "America's Classic"..by Wixon.
They have them in a variety of stores. Very good results, enriched, low fat, etc. and reasonable prices.

The wife is a real bargain hunter. She found a breadholder with slots for $5 at Big Lots. This one.. can't believe people are bidding on it. We use that with a bread knife. You don't have to spend much to get the job done.

It could be a coincidence but this is the only one that seems to be new, and the seller is in Milwaukee. West Bend is in West Bend, WI which is sort of a suburb. Maybe somebody's sneaking them out. ;)
I'd still pay $13.01 for the new one than $8 for a used one. I mean seriously. A used bread slicer ? What a country ! :D |

Been doing homemade bread for years. As part of our year's food supply, we store our own wheat, ready for grinding, and make our own bread whenever we want some. Have gone through many brands of grinders over time. First one was a Magic MIll, large stones for grinding. It was electric, and hand a handle attachment for hook up to a bicycle in case of a power outage.
Year's supply of food is part of our Church emergency preparation program that we have followed for years.
Last grinder we bought is a Bosch, excellent machine, but has no power outage back up, so we are looking for a reliable generator to tide us through power outages.
Don't forget to add some honey to your breadmaking recipes, and if you are truly daring, try mixing in some Treacle (from Cost Plus Markets) if you like a molasses flavour. |

Update: I've been using this machine almost on a daily basis for over two weeks now and my impression hasn't changed a bit. I've gone through a 10lb bag of flour and all but 1 bread came out perfect. Like others have said on Amazon, just "cure" the yeast for a couple of minutes before putting in the rest of the dry ingredients. I've tried about 10 different recipes thus far and have created some of my own. It's gotten to a point where I don't even measure the ingredients.
As for the 1 bread that screwed up, it was mostly my fault. I put too much water in and the bread come out flat but it was still yummy. |

The instructions on our Kenmore say to make a little pocket to put the yeast in.
We found it works better with a shallow trench all around the top, not too close to the sides.
Keep learning little tricks all the time. Producing some fine tasting (and looking) bread. |
