I have always owned sportsbike...However...THIS IS THE MOTHER OR ALL TOYS that I have ever owned!
This is a 2005 Harley Davidson V-ROD VRSCA that is totally customed in the tradition of The Punisher bike. 240MM REAR tire. Engine designed by PORSCHE. integrated LED rear stop light with custom rear fender. PUNISHER grips, integrated mirrors. |

And I wasn't a fan of Harley sportbikes, though I always loved them in general. That thing is badass, I know have three bikes on my list, a Fat Boy, That, and a BMW K1200S. Being 16 I was gonna get my bike permit too but my aunt who lives near by sold her Hog for financial reasons :(
Again, that thing is sick. How much was it if you don't mind me asking, I know Harleys have a large price range(my aunts only 7 bucks, but it was her first and seemingly last bike).

Hey mike-
I bought the VRSCA stock. The bike had really ugly handle-bars and grips and mirros on it. What was even worse were the wheels. They were these billet solid disk wheels that I think look better on a FATBOY than on the V-ROD. The bike costs $16,550.00 out the door which includes tax, license and registration.
I took it to San Diego Harley Davidson to have it customed the way I wanted. I ordered the EUROCOMPONENTS wide tire kit. EUROCOMPONENTS is a company out of the UK that makes really really nice aftermarket parts for the V-RODs. I have the rear fender customed with LED stop light and integrated signals built into the license plate bracket. Painted to match the bike. I had them changed out the handle-bar to the HD dragbar that is wider and lower. I also ordered the Kuryakyn chrome mirrors with integrated LED signals in the mirrors. HD SKULL/Punisher grips. Braided brake lines. 21 inch front rim with matching brake rotors. 19 inch 240 rear with matching rotors and pulleys. Eurocomponents swingarms to accomodate the rear wheel and tire. The costs for the parts is $6,498.00. Then there is another 40 hours of labor and machining at $4865.00.
So far, I have dropped $27,913.00 on this thing. NO REGRETS! I swear it rides like a Porsche 911 on two wheels.
The next step is to have the aircover and my helmet painted with the melting punisher skull from the PUNISHER movie. The second one. I will find the picture of the skull and posted here for you.
One of my friend is doing some metallurgy work on the Skull dagger for my front and rear pegs.
Believe it or not...I use this thing as a commuter every Thursday and Friday to my office.:D |

Well that thing is absolutly sick, abd looks like its worth every penny. Just dont drop it :D

Or you could just buy a Suzuki sportbike (Hayabusa, SV1000S, etc) for a fraction of the price and get the same (or more) power, better handling, better reliability and lower insurance and maintenance costs.
Ive always known Harleys to be mostly junk. Ive seen that they have improved the last couple of years but pound for pound you cant beat a top Japanese sportbike. |

How about knowing what you're talking about before you talk next time?
Actually, a Hayabusa has some of the absolute highest insurance rates out of any motorcycle out there. Though not as reliable as their Honda/Suzuki/Yamaha counterparts, a Ducati, Triumph, or a Harley powered Buell sportbike owner usually enjoys insurance rates that are about half as much.
And for cruisers...you may think they are junk, but Harley has been doing them for a long time. They might have actually figured it out don't you think. If all you want to do is cruise the boulevard, and have it looking good, a Harley does it better than just about anything from anywhere else in the world. |
|

:werd:
Hayabusas arent too great(notice people spending the same or more on other imports from yamaha and honda), sure they're the fastest production bike, but there are many other imports which are all around better(or basically in handling) and come pretty damn close in speed.
While Hogs aren't track bikes, they are much nicer and more comfortable, and a lot nicer to look at. As far as reliability is concerned, its much easier to find an aging Harley still running than an aging import, wouldnt you say, add to that that they are one of the "original" motorcycles. Harleys also hold there value better.
After all this, you're comparing apples and oranges. The new Rav 4 is faster than the MDX, and as a toyota, more reliable...
Due to financial restraints, I am stuck with this: www.xanga.com/bbgarage. Had the previous model working when I was 15, Americans can build bikes.
Mike
Edit: I would also like to ad that as a sportbike owner Fireblade6 probably knew what he was doing. |

OK...I don't know what Devil is talking about. I agree with SuperTech. If Harley are junk, then why do all the JAP bike makers design their bikes to look like a Harley Cruiser? LOL
Anyway..I am not going to argue of this, I have owned sportsbikes all my life and recently taken a liking to Harleys because it is not only a hobby of mine now but it is a bike that shows value as opposed to plastics.
And by the way, I have a 1300CC engine and my insurance is less than that of a 600CC sportsbike because it is categorized as a cruiser. The funny thing is...it doesnt cruise like an UltraClassic...HAHAHAHA |

Yeah, Ive noticed that. What is that, the Honda Starr or something. I always LMAO when I see those and want to tell the people to get a real Harley. I probably could, I don't think any baddass biker is going to be riding a Honda.

The V-Rod is geared a little too short. Doing 4-5k RPMs on the freeway just doesn't seem right for a Harley. It has great roll on passing power that way, but it still seems like it could be spinning much lower and still pull ok. I know the motor can spin up much hihger than a Twin Cam 88, but still...I think the V-Rod needs a 6th gear or just taller 4th and 5th gears. |

OMG!! SuperTech you so freakin right! I ridden sportsbike all my life and when I ride my CBR900RR or the DUCK, having that six gear and the higher revs just makes the bike much more punisherable.
For some reason, I do feel I am missing something when I ride the V-ROD without a sixth gear. |

Makes me want to trade my wife for one. Now I know what I want for my birthday. I have been looking to trade my Honda Shadow, but couldn't find a bike to cruise and looks sporty.
BTW, how loud is the bike? Same as other HD cruisers? |

You know...the pipes that are on my bike right now believe it or not is totally stock. The interesting thing about this bike is that when you first start it up, the engine sounds like a porsche 911. Figures since Porsche designed the damn cooling system and engine.
But once it is "hot" the V-twin and the pipes gets pretty loud. Not as loud as the aftermarket pipes that HARLEY owners put on their bike.
It is a different kind of loud...I cant explain it... |

Yeah...That is a HONDA RUNE. Very rare bike. The thought of having six cylinders between your legs is a fantasy of mine next to being with my girlfriend. I know what you mean. I first saw the RUNE back in 2003 at the Long Beach convention center annual motorcycle show. The purple/merlot color on the RUNE is so beautiful. It looks better in person in my opinion.
I saw a guy pulled up in one at a local Honda dealer here. He was around 5'11'' tall and seems like the bike is pretty manageable. |
|
|
| tonsaphun |
Well, I'm only 5'7" and couldn't even sit on it. My legs could barely touch the ground. I wish they would make a smaller version of it .
I'm jealous that you are riding your bike. I have to wait about another month. Damn weather over here.....it's freeeeezing! |

Something that's geting to be even more rare, and is a whole lot more exciting to ride that those way too heavy luxo boat Goldwings, Valkys, and the Rune...is the 1979-82 Honda CBX. Also a six banger, but it was an inline six. Really amazing to see such an engine stuffed in those old standard pipe rack frames of years ago. |

If you are gonna go anywhere higher than an I4 may as well go with one of the following:
Boss Hoss:

Tomahawk, not sure if is a true bike as it has 4 wheels

Or the less conventional turbo shaft driven y2k bike:
 |
|
|
| Fireblade6 |
You know..I heard Jay Leno has a Y2K also.
That is an amazing bike. The idea of having a JET Engine for a bike is ridiculous fantastic!! |
|
|
| BostonX |
Since the birth of my second child four years ago I haven't been on a motorcycle. I just don't have the same lack of fear I once had...
As a matter of fact, both my bikes are still in storage in Boston! |
|
|
| crazymjb |
I live near Boston, in Newton, donate them to a good cause, ME!
Leno does have a Y2K, that thing is nice, but personally I would prefer a tomahawk, it costs about the same. With a jet turbine you get one second of lag both ways, which I guess could be kinda scary when trying to stop. I am surprised they don't have some sort of waste gate for when you need to make a panick stop.

Why did you have to rain on his parade? I think that's a pretty cool bike. Although I couldn't afford to spend $28K on one. It's nice to look at. |

Cause he is jeolous...
Also, a Hayabusa LE is around 13K, so yes, decked out his bike is 15 more, but base its only a 4k or so difference. And you can add stuff slowly. Hayabusas also suck outside of straight line runs from what I hear.

Price, reliability, maintenance costs and insurance costs have little to do with motorcycling. Motorcycling is about passion and excitement and a lot of other intangible things that can't be quantified by performance numbers or magazine reviews.
Here's a pic of your's truly in my pre-fatherhood days:

Of all of the sportsbike, I think the MV Agusta is the sexiest and one of the most beautifully crafted bikes in the world. The swingarm on that bike is BEAUTIFUL!
That is an F4S model you have...Very nice bike.
But..I tend to agree with BostonX though. If it was costs and such..I wouldnt have modified the bike the way I did. |
|
|
| crazymjb |
I still think BMW makes the sexiest sport bikes.

And here is your's truly sitting on a bike that costs likely six times what my first car will cost:

(image downsizing kind makes it all grainy)
From what I hear Augusta makes great bikes, I believe Tom cruise has one, which he rides up and down a runway...
The thing that sucks about bikes, is no matter how good a driver you are, it will likely be a driver neglecting to look both ways that will screw you up.
I view Harley's as THE passion bikes more than any others.

Unfortunately this is true. I work with a guy who hit and killed a motorcyclists six months ago. Just simply did not see him. There were all the mandatory charges and court appearances, but ultimately it was found to be an accident with no blame. No drugs or alcohol, no recklessness, just a tragic accident which left one dead and one screwed up for I guess the rest of his life. I promise I look each way four times now. There but for the grace of God.......... |

| He is actually not doing as well as we would like to see him doing. He seems to be internalizing the incident. The company insisted that he go for counseling, which he is doing, but he is very different and a changed man. I think the thing that is interesting to me is how affected so many people are by a tragic accident like this. My colleague is of course the most affected (well, after the victim), but I have heard so many people express their own pain, as though it happened to all of us on some level. I am not a psychologists, but I think it is interesting. |

I'm a runner and after being harassed by cars on a County Road (running on shoulder, off pavement), I think differently when driving. It was a crazy morning run. Never happened before or since, although I will only run on sidewalks now. Three cars/trucks purposely drove into the shoulder yelled/honked horns. Scared the daylights out of me. I often see cyclists training and being harassed from a car/truck b/c they are in a hurry. No reason to 'buzz' these folks, you would never forgive yourself (like your friend :( ) if you actually caused an accident.

I gained a new respect for running on the sidewalk when I started driving. I used to run on the shoulder as much as possible, but its nerve racking having people right out next to you when your driving.
Drivers harassing people is plain stupid. Take down there plates and call them in for wreckless driving. Hopefully it will get entered and help to screw them if they ever get pulled over.
