Wow that sucks. Especially the case with the extended warranty in your sig. You give Tim credit but it is now a link to an aftermarket warranty company. People will now think you purposely linked to that site. It even happens with the word warranty in this post. THIS IS BAD! |

Actually, it's not our call - it's the site Admin. The sponsored links and "adsense" words are revenue generators and I certainly can't fault Daniel for that. I think the misspelling is the best peaceful protest we can employ without financially hurting the person who makes this site available to us gratis. |

I can put up with ads and other revenue generators but it really crosses the line when it changes what you have posted to imply something that you did not mean. In fact it may be entirely opposed to what you recommend as in the xtended warranty case. |

Mis-spelling does not help those who are trying to use the search function. I would rather have that function work and have the knowledge that some links are not intended by the poster of the message.

Perhaps admin should rethink the use of these hyper-text links. |

Chiming in here -
Believe me when I say that this is just a test. I've seen other forums do it (vtec.net, amongst the more popular ones) and I wanted to give it a try.
I would like to run them for a week or two and then re-evaluate. Please bare with me in the meantime.

Great tip. I agree with most posters that this is an uncomfortable position Admin has put us in. I'm all for promoting the wesbsite but when somebody links your words to something or some product you do not endorse, doesn't that infringe on freedom of speech and border on false advertisement? Just a thought. |

I don't believe we have any constitutional rights on an internet forum, but I certainly understand how you feel. Sheesh, I just had to change my signature because the "M*D*X" linked to an advertisement.:3: |

Have we all forgotten that there are certain costs inherent with running this board? I don't blame Admin for doing what he has to do to get revenue to support the operation of the boards he administers. Would you rather have no board? Sometimes, in this day an age, we feel entitled. I'm just as guilty as the next guy.
With that said I'd like to share an observation. Of the 10 individual posters prior to this post, only 3 are contributors to this board.
Now don't get your panties all in a bunch. :9:
I didn't exactly make a world wind contribution myself. As a matter of fact it's probably time for me to send another contribution. With the wealth of information available here I should have done it long ago. But if everyone pitched in and helped with what they could this resource we all use might be able to get by without intrusive advertising. If you can afford an MDX, a few bucks for support wouldn't hurt.
Just a thought........
Okay, I'm getting down now.... :soapbox: |

Do you mind giving everyone an explanation why you want to do this? What benefit will we get? If it's beneficial to maintain the forum, say finacially, maybe we are willing to take it.
My personal opinion, take it off. It's annoying. I am here to help other drivers, not to do advertisement for someone I don't know. |

I honestly don't mind it at all. Daniel is entitled to make money for all his hard work on this site (that we can use for free).
One idea I've seen on some other sites is that lurkers (non-registered guests) see the all underlined ad links, but those who've signed in do not. Just a thought to smooth some aparrantly ruffled feathers here. |

They do not bother me in the least. If I do not want to click on these links I use my freewill and refrain. The only result that I see is that there are now some colored words that were not there before.

Until contributors can turn it off through the CP.... if you use firefox and adblock but have not figured out how to block them, go to Tools,Adblock, Preferences,Click in new filter area, enter
http://acuramdx.us.intellitxt.com/*
Click, add, then click, done, reload the forum page you were on and voila, gone.
For Internet Explorer users, try this little trick.
edit a file called hosts normally found in \windows\system32\drivers\etc and add a line at the bottom like
127.0.0.1 acuramdx.us.intellitxt.com
Save the file. Reload IE page.
cd |

The only problem I've found with firefox w/adblock is that it appears to take twice as long as Explorer to open sites with a lot of graphics/pictures. |

FYI - you will need to rename the file to hosts.txt to edit, save, then rename to hosts.

| Understand that adjusting firefox or adding the entry to your HOSTS file doesn't fix the problem - it just makes it so your machine doesn't process the tag markups. Those who don't use these methods still see the markups in your posts. |

That's weird - I see just the opposite. Firefox loads pages several times faster than IE for me, though I do have quite a few Firefox extensions installed. Maybe there are some other interactions, but for me Firefox loads the same pages much faster than IE does. |

But new members will still see it and they will click on that extended warranty link and think it is recommended by the poster thus possibly keeping a site sponsor from getting the business..........
Do the ads generate revenue by simply being there or is clicking on them required like some sites? |

It's a revenue generation thing. |

I know it's revenue generation, but some sites have ads/links that only generate revenue if the ads/links are actually clicked on. If that is the case, then everyone changing their browser to ignore them will defeat their purpose. If it's not the case and the ads generate revenue by simply being in place then browser changing will not affect it. I was just trying to clarify how they generate revenue. |

Soapbox time:
Clearly, I understand that this site is not being run as a charity. However, I do have a problem with hyperlinked text in my posts being misinterpreted as a recommendation by me for a product. I would not appreciate being associated with plugging the merits of Turbonators, for example.
I can also see other uses of these hyperlinks in my posts. Try political agendas, candidates, causes, or lifestyles. Type in "port", and up pops a dialog box touting the merits of Dubai Port Services, sponsored by this current Administration. Do you really want your personal posting to be used as a launching pad to some guy espousing his religious beliefs however radical or benign?
We all have a right to make a buck in this free country. But sometimes free isn't free.
Besides, even if I don't click on the hyperlinks, they still are soooooo distracting.
Basically these hyperlinks...........
SUCK!

Yeah, it's kinda like how I miss the "special advertising section" disclaimer on those full page newspaper ads. I'm going to keep all my gold coins, but I wish they would make the disclaimer bigger. |

| Really? I just love my Acura MDX. It's so much better than the Honda Pilot or the Lexus RX330. and a better value than the BMW X5 and the Mercedes M Class. If it weren't for the EGR valve, spring recall, front suspension, and transmission issues, it would be perfect. I did upgrade to a cold air intake and dual exhaust, however. An extended warranty would have been ideal. Oh, and the guys at acuramdx.org are the best, not withstanding the current debate over the hyperlinks. |
